This episode is part one of a two-part series where I share my story of 22 days on the John Muir Trail. Each day, I pulled out my phone and did a short episode to share our thoughts and our realizations. It’s a beautiful way for you to get in my heart, mind, and soul. I met the most incredible humans on my journey; I had no idea kindness would be the overall theme of my trip. Today, you should do some kind acts for others.
Day one was challenging – it’s always tricky because you are getting used to something new. My pack felt heavy, and I constantly shifted it around. I had moments where I was so angry; I hit a wall; I felt tired and exhausted. I thought, “why are we even doing this?” All we kept saying was, “take one step in front of the other.” We KNEW we would make it to the summit.
Day two was hard – we watched the incredible sunrise and made it to camp at 4:15. It was a longer and more challenging day than we anticipated. Also, we didn’t get as far as we wanted. However, we always leave room to shift and make decisions that are best for us. I started to miss my kids on the trail and realize that I wouldn’t see them for twenty days. However, I understand that we are never alone, even when we are not physically in each other’s presence.
Stay tuned as I give daily updates on my journey. I share stories of the people I meet on the trail. We talk about how gratitude leads to joy, why it’s essential to stay present at the moment, and how we can feel the world around us. Plus, I encourage you to try something new today and do whatever it is that you choose.
