I’ve been circling Passport to Magonia for years.
It’s one of those books that kept showing up in the background of everything I was interested in: UFOs, folklore, fairies, angels, demons, djinn, strange lights, impossible encounters, and the feeling that human beings have always been visited by something we don’t fully know how to name.
So I finally read it.
In this episode of Idiot Mystic, we dive into Jacques Vallée’s classic book Passport to Magonia and the idea that the modern “alien” explanation might be too simple.
Vallée does something rare. He does not just ask whether UFOs are real. He asks why so many UFO stories feel strangely similar to older stories about fairies, spirits, hidden realms, tricksters, sky beings, and visitors from somewhere just outside ordinary life.
This episode is about UFOs, yes.
But it is also about the way culture gives language to the unknown.
One age sees fairies.
Another sees angels.
Another sees demons.
Another sees extraterrestrials.
And maybe the phenomenon has been moving through all of those masks.
Topics include:
Jacques Vallée
Passport to Magonia
UFOs and folklore
Fairies and alien encounters
Parallel worlds
High strangeness
Ancient and medieval sky phenomena
