Judges 11:1–2 (ESV) - “Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior, but he was the son of a prostitute. Gilead was the father of Jephthah. And Gilead’s wife also bore him sons. And when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him, ‘You shall not have an inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.’”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reminds us that the circumstances of our birth do not determine our destiny. Though Jephthah was rejected and driven away by his own family, God still had a plan for his life and raised him up to become a great leader in Israel.

Pastor Sumrall explains that while rejection and injustice can lead to bitterness and wrong choices, they do not have to define who we become. Jephthah’s life shows that even after painful beginnings, God can restore purpose and use a person greatly when they choose forgiveness over anger.

2026 1 Timothy 4:13 Project 

Judges 9:2 (ESV) - “Say in the ears of all the leaders of Shechem, ‘Which is better for you, that all seventy of the sons of Jerubbaal rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches the danger of choosing loyalty to people over what is right. He explains how Abimelech gained leadership not because of righteousness or God’s will, but because of family ties, showing how relationships can be misused to justify wrong decisions.

Pastor Sumrall emphasizes that while loyalty to family and friends is a strength, it can become a weakness when it leads us to compromise truth. Believers must learn to put what is right before personal relationships, choosing God’s standards over emotional or cultural pressure.

He also highlights the parable of the trees, showing that truly fruitful people do not push themselves into leadership, while self-promoting individuals often seek power with wrong motives, leading to control and destruction.

2026 1 Timothy 4:13 Project 

Judges 6:12 (ESV) - “And the angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, ‘The LORD is with you, O mighty man of valor.’”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches how God calls us according to what we will become, not what we currently feel. Gideon was afraid and hiding, yet God called him a mighty hero, showing that God speaks faith over our lives even when fear is still present.

Pastor Sumrall explains that fear does not instantly disappear when God gives a promise. Gideon still struggled with fear even after being called, but God patiently helped him overcome it by giving encouragement and reassurance. This shows that God understands our fears and provides ways to strengthen our faith.

This Daily Devotion reminds us that it is normal to face fear, but we must not stay in it. As we follow God’s instructions and receive His encouragement, fear is replaced with courage, and we grow into the person God has already called us to be.

2026 1 Timothy 4:13 Project 

Judges 6:13–16 (ESV) - “And Gideon said to him, ‘Please, sir, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all his wonderful deeds that our fathers recounted to us…?’ And the LORD turned to him and said, ‘Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?’ And Gideon said to him, ‘Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest… and I am the least in my father’s house.’ And the LORD said to him, ‘But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.’”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reminds us that before asking God for miracles, we must first respond in obedience with what we already have. Gideon questioned God, asking where the miracles were, but God answered by calling him to act—“Go in the strength you have.”

Pastor Sumrall teaches that God often waits for us to do our part before He does the supernatural. We handle what is in our ability, and God steps in to do what only He can do. Even when we feel weak, unqualified, or incapable, God’s answer remains the same: “I will be with you.”

Proverbs 21:5 (ESV) - “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”
