  • Ephesians“ overview of 2:19-22; God’s Temple in Humanity, part 2.
    Thursday July 11, 2019
Eph 2:19-22 God's Temple in Humanity.
The end of the paragraph leads us to Paul's intent from the beginning of it ("You were dead") - the habitation of God amongst men.
Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household,
Eph 2:20 having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets [of the church age], Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,
    Eph 2:21 in whom the [no def. art. "a"] whole building, being fitted together [fitly framed = many become one] is growing into a holy temple in the Lord;
    Eph 2:22 in whom you...

The new man is under a law much like mankind is under Natural Law. Natural Law tells a man what he ought to do in every situation. Natural Law is not in man, though every man knows it, but is outside of him.
If Natural Law was within man then there would be a part of every man that would do everything right. We could say that there was a righteous part in each of us, but that is not true. We are totally depraved.

  • Ephesians“ overview of 2:14-18; Double Reconciliation, part 11 ~ the law of love.
    Tuesday July 9, 2019
"Behold the secret of all true union! It is not by others coming to us, nor by our going over to them; but it is by both them and ourselves coming to Christ." [Monod]
Christ will always be the Teacher of this peace. He speaks through the word of God and that lives in thousands of hearts from every order, every age, every culture, and every race.
Remove God, remove Christ and His cross and resurrection from a marriage, a group, a society, a nation and you will soon find walls and barriers constructed, dividing people along many lines.
Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,
Eph 2:15 by abolishing [render inoperative] in His flesh...

10 ~ The Law vs. the New Covenant.
Laws cannot make a man virtuous as God is. Life is more than law.
Heb 10:19 Since therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
Heb 10:20 by a new and living way which [entrance] He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
The structure of the Greek sentence has "which" modifying "to enter." The living way has always been. It is from eternity. It is the entrance that has been inaugurated.

  • Independence Day Special: Idols vs. the Servant of the Lord - Isa 41:21-42:9
    Thursday July 4, 2019
Did King George have a right to rule us? He thought he did at the wise and advanced age of 26, by nothing other than the virtue of the fortunate time and place of his birth. People on the other side of the pond thought differently. They concluded that men should be ruled by consent.
This wasn't a new idea, but it was awfully difficult to pull off when most people were born into lands that already had monarchs, oligarchies, dictators who had armies and weapons. Revolutions were tried, most famously in France, and they were disastrous, causing the death of many, and ended up changing nothing. The early colonies were in an historically unique position, and they were smart enough and motivated enough to take advantage of it.
Declaration of Independence: to assume among the powers of the earth, the...

Laws cannot make a man virtuous as God is. Life is more than law.
Christ came into the world in order to give us His life, which is the only life. The provisions of that life, the things that make it possible; forgiveness, wisdom, insight, an inheritance, the indwelling Holy Spirit - these were promised in the New Covenant which was given to Israel when their nation was destroyed (Jeremiah and Ezekiel) and they said farewell to their last earthly king.
It would seem ironic that God would reveal to them, at the time of their death and at the time when their last earthly king would sit on David's throne - that the covenant of death would be removed and a covenant of life would be given. That New Covenant of...

Laws cannot make a man virtuous as God is. Life is more than law.
Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love
Eph 1:5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
Eph 1:6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the...

Eph 2:14-18 - The Double Reconciliation.
The reconciliation of Jew and Gentile mirrors the change from the old man to the new man as well as the change from the old covenant (Mosaic) to the New Covenant.
We must lay aside our study of the historical conditions of the early church and the divisions that arose and return to it after we have familiarized ourselves with the principle of old man and new man along with old covenant and new covenant.
Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,
Eph 2:15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might...

    Thursday June 27, 2019
Eph 2:14-18 - The Double Reconciliation.
The reconciliation of Jew and Gentile in the church represents the reconciliation of all mankind to one another. Only the new men are reconciled in this age. In eternity, only new men will live and so all will be reconciled. Our age is the first instance of it and a picture of the world to come.
The reconciliation of Jew and Gentile mirrors the change from the old man to the new man as well as the change from the old covenant (Mosaic) to the New Covenant.

    Wednesday June 26, 2019
Eph 2:14-18 - The Double Reconciliation.
Our study of the early church returns to Antioch, the rich, beautiful, and populous city which was the Roman seat of the province of Syria. The Christian persecutions in Jerusalem drove many Jewish Christians north to settle there, and through them, a large, and mostly Gentile, church was established there.
Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,
Eph 2:15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing...
