Rut 3:10 Then he said, "May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than the first by not going after young men, whether poor or rich.
The chesed in Ruth's heart has displaced the passion and greed of the flesh that can still encroach upon the child of God. Again, it is not as important to make the passion and desire of the flesh smaller in our view, but to make the glory of God bigger, and then the flesh will seem insignificant.
Ruth considers her own happiness to be secondary to Naomi's. How rare this is, even, unfortunately, among Christians.
Boaz immediately sets to comfort her.
Rut 3:11 And now, my daughter,...

  • Ruth: 3:1-9; a study on chesed “ mercy is to be personal and universal.
Title: Ruth: 3:1-9; a study on chesed - mercy is to be personal and universal.
Chesed implies personal involvement and commitment in a relationship beyond the rule of law.
James used the word when instructing his readers to abstain from showing favoritism to the rich above the poor.
Jam 2:1 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.
James is explaining what living faith is all about. We are not to compromise faith by having respect of persons. Admiring a person because of his position in life was expressly forbidden by the Mosaic Law in Lev...

  • Resurrection 2018
    Title: Resurrection 2018
In chapters 18-20, the gospel of John reaches its conclusion. In these chapters the conflict of unbelief and belief comes to its apex.
Joh 18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden, into which He Himself entered, and His disciples.
Joh 18:2 Now Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place; for Jesus had often met there with His disciples.
Joh 18:3 Judas then, having received the Roman cohort, and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.
    The betrayal:
The feature of the betrayal which John made most important was the voluntary surrender of...

Mat 6:19"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
    Mat 6:20 "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;
Mat 6:21 for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Mat 6:22 "The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear [singular], your whole body will be full of light.
Mat 6:23 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!...

Title: Ruth: 3:1-9; a study on chesed - the substance of all things, God's glory.
Paul to the Corinthians, "All things belong to you." (1Co 3:21) How do we inherit the earth? We see and therefore possess the glory of God in all things.
He begins this section with the admonition for us to not deceive ourselves. In context he would mean that we are not convince ourselves that we see God's glory when we do not. The Corinthians were sure that they properly understood their relationship to Paul and the other pastors when they were very far from the truth.
1Co 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become foolish that he may become wise.
The false teachers were claiming that they had a deep, mystery wisdom...

We continue in the substance of relationships. It is mercy and love. Also:
The substance is spontaneous kindness, patience, graciousness, forgiveness, shared truth, endurance, compassion, support, faithfulness, and more. All of these are invisible and immeasurable.
Kindness, patience, graciousness, forgiveness, shared truth, endurance, compassion, support, faithfulness, goodness, self-control, virtue, sacrifice, and on and on; all of these are invisible and immeasurable and they cannot be taken from you. They are the treasure of heaven where neither moth nor rust destroy.

I wrote these things taken from the definition of agape love in 1Co 13:4-8. At the end of that definition, Paul writes that love is eternal. Your Bible translates it as, "love never fails," but that's misleading. Relationships can and do fail, but the substance of love is eternal. Think of the Cross of Christ. It did not heal all relationships with man, as some still rejected Him, but the effects of it are eternal, even in judgment of the unbeliever. The glory of God is eternal. Do not allow yourself to lose sight...
