  • Ruth: 3:1-5; Naomi’s plan, Ruth’s confidence, and the joy of God’s people.
Title: Ruth: 3:1-5; Naomi's plan, Ruth's confidence, and the joy of God's people.
Rut 3:1Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, "My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you?
Rut 3:2 "And now is not Boaz our kinsman [moyda - relative], with whose maids you were? Behold, he winnows barley at the threshing floor tonight.
The joy of threshing is used by God to communicate hope.
There is always hope when seeds are planted. What will be the harvest?
Be anxious for nothing. Can we find the joy of God's harvest in every part of our lives, no matter what is going on at the time? Are we sure of our harvest?
    Rut 3:3 Wash...

Ruth: 3:1-5; Naomi's plan, Ruth's confidence, and the joy of God's people.
Rut 3:1Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, "My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you?
Naomi is faced with three issues:
    1) Maintain the family name, 2) Protect her land, 3) Provide security for Ruth. Marriage to Boaz solves all three.
It should be understood that by the words that Naomi uses, she seems only interested in the third issue and not in the first two. This speaks of her character.
    Now...

Ruth: 3:1; The Lord is near, be anxious for nothing.
Again, we are discovering God's intimacy with the lives of all people, and especially His own.
Luk 12:1 He began saying to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Luk 12:2 "But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
Luk 12:3 "Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Luk 12:4 "And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
    Luk 12:5 "But I will...

Ruth: 3:1; God is intimately involved in our lives, whether humble of arrogant.
We are currently looking at the mystery of how God guides and influences man for His own good pleasure without tampering with their free-will and self-determination.
Luk 12:1 He began saying to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Title: Ruth: 3:1; God is intimately involved in our lives, whether humble of arrogant.
Ruth chapter 3 begins the third main division of the book.
Rut 3:1Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, "My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you?
Naomi has formed an idea. She proposes that Ruth seek marriage with Boaz in the spirit of the law of levirate marriage. It is not possible that either of them to directly approach Boaz and suggest marriage. It would not be proper. She seeks security and rest for Ruth, but also for solutions for herself. This is God's plan as well.
    God certainly...

  • Ruth: 2:12-17; Grace under God’s refuge, part 2.
Title: Ruth: 2:12-17; Grace under God's refuge, part 2.
We have begun a study on the word charis or grace stemming from our study of Ruth's overwhelming blessings that were given to her by Boaz. God has blessed every believer with things that are beyond imagination.
The NT retains the classical usage of charis: beauty, thankfulness, gifts beyond expectation, no thought of reward. However, in the NT God gave charis to His enemies and so do His children.
Eph 3:14 For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father,
Eph 3:15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,...

  • Ruth: 2:12-17; Grace under God’s refuge.
Title: Ruth: 2:12-17; Grace under God's refuge.
Rut 2:12 May the Lord reward your work, and your wages be full from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge."
Last night we looked at the other places in the Bible where this imagery of being under the Lord's wings is used and concluded with the lamentation of Jesus as He approached Jerusalem for the final time, in which He said, Mat 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling."
However, Ruth was willing to be gathered as many individuals have been, and although the national of Israel must wait for her future kingdom in which she will be...

  • Ruth: 2:8-17; Seeking refuge under the wings of God.
Title: Ruth: 2:8-17; Seeking refuge under the wings of God.
"Suppose someone invented an instrument, a convenient little talking tube which, say, could be heard over the whole land ... I wonder if the police would not forbid it, fearing that the whole country would become mentally deranged if it were used." [Soren Kierkegaard, 19th century]
Ruth has journeyed to Bethlehem to seek refuge under the God of Israel. She did not know her future. She only knew that she wanted to be with God and with Naomi, both of whom she loved.
Boaz prays that her work would be rewarded. His prayer would be positively answered. How could young Ruth know that soon enough she would be...
