Title: Joshua and Judges: Joshua's farewell. A reminder of all that the Lord has done. Jos 23.
    Announcements / opening prayer:
Jos 23-24; Joshua's farewell and death.
Jos 23:1 Now it came about after many days, when the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their enemies on every side, and Joshua was old, advanced in years,
Jos 23:2 that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and their heads and their judges and their officers, and said to them, "I am old, advanced in years.
Jos 23:3 And you have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the Lord your God is He who has been fighting for you.
Jos 23:4 See, I have apportioned to you these nations...

    Announcementsopening prayer:
A river is a natural boundary and to some people so are race, gender, economic status, political and national affiliation, skin color, etc. In Christ there are no boundaries; all are one.
This may be why God allowed the 2½ tribes to settle on the eastern side of the Jordan. He may have wanted to teach them that a river or any other geographical or personal boundary is not a boundary within the community of the Lord's elect. Christians also had to learn this in the first century as this truth was new and they had been brought up in a world with many prejudices, which the world always has been and always will be.
    Col 3:11
a renewal in which there is no...

Title: Joshua and Judges: Acting without thinking it through and believing the best of someone who does so; Jos 22.
    Announcements / opening prayer:
Were the other tribes attempting to create a second altar or a second tabernacle? Did they imagine it would be too much to cross the Jordan and travel to Shiloh in order to offer sacrifices to God at the proper times?
God had instructed that if any of the cities of Israel had decided to sacrifice to false gods then the city was to be put under the ban and all the people and their materials were to be destroyed. So, arraying for battle against what seemed to be a violation of the one sacred altar could be seen as commendable zeal for the Lord. Yet, they immediately jumped to the conclusion that the altar was for sinful purposes. They will send a delegation to find out before they go to...

Title: Joshua and Judges: Acting without thinking it through and believing the best of someone who does so; Jos 22.
    Announcements / opening prayer:
Due to the apostasy of Israel in coming generations the foreigners within their lands and bordering them will be allowed by God to become strong again and they will greatly oppress Israel.
On Sunday we documented several scriptures that assertively claimed that God alone saved and that it is God alone that gives us the victory in life. This comes through our faith. God reigns supreme over His universe, but each person must give God charge over his thoughts, decisions, and actions. This is the definition of will, which is not free to do anything, but is free to love and follow Christ or to leave that love and that path.
Don't lose your first love. If...

Title: Joshua and Judges: The Abrahamic covenant is unconditional. Apostasy only prolongs its fulfillment; Jos 21:45.
Announcements / opening prayer: Veterans Day
Jos 21:43 So the Lord gave Israel all the land which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they possessed it and lived in it.
Jos 21:44 And the Lord gave them rest on every side, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers, and no one of all their enemies stood before them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hand.
Jos 21:45 Not one of the good promises which the Lord had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass.
The promise given to Abraham, Moses, Joshua, and all Israel is fulfilled. Joshua was strong and courageous and God gave every land where his...

Title: Joshua and Judges: The refuge cities - a fair criminal justice system is necessary for the prosperity of a nation; Jos 20.
Announcements / opening prayer: Veterans Day
Jos 20:1 Then the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying,
Jos 20:2 "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'Designate the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through Moses,
Jos 20:3 that the manslayer who kills any person unintentionally, without premeditation, may flee there, and they shall become your refuge from the avenger of blood.
Jos 20:4 'And he shall flee to one of these cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city and state his case in the hearing of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city to them and give him...

Title: Joshua and Judges: God alone fulfills His covenant with Israel. The curse upon Simeon and Levi. The refuge cities; Jos 20.
    Announcements / opening prayer:
Jos 18:10 And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the Lord, and there Joshua divided the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions.
The lot fell in the order: Benjamin, Simeon, Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan.
Let's skip down to Simeon's lot.
Jos 19:9 The inheritance of the sons of Simeon was taken from the portion of the sons of Judah, for the share of the sons of Judah was too large for them; so the sons of Simeon received an inheritance in the midst of Judah's inheritance.
    We don't hear of any...

  • Joshua and Judges: Discovering the value of what we have in Christ; Jos 18.
Title: Joshua and Judges: Discovering the value of what we have in Christ; Jos 18.
    Announcements / opening prayer:
Seven tribes procrastinate the settlement of their land and Joshua has to force the issue when he shouldn't have had to. The tribes show immediately that they fail to see the importance of what they are doing in taking this land. God is delivering His people so that salvation will come to all mankind.
From the promise to Abraham to the rulership of Joseph in Egypt to the captivity in Egypt to the Passover to the wilderness to the conquering of the land we find here the culmination of one of the parts of the greatest covenant ever made and they are dragging their feet.
Israel is a warning for every CA believer. Search out the value of what you have in...

Title: Joshua and Judges: Failure to understand the reason for God's will in life will result in procrastination; Jos 18.
    Announcements / opening prayer:
Jos 18:1 Then the whole congregation of the sons of Israel assembled themselves at Shiloh, and set up the tent of meeting there; and the land was subdued before them.
Jos 18:2 And there remained among the sons of Israel seven tribes who had not divided their inheritance.
Jos 18:3 So Joshua said to the sons of Israel, "How long will you put off entering to take possession of the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you?
We have to understand that for the past few months these people have settled peacefully in the land around Gilgal and Shiloh and without war...

Title: Joshua and Judges: Failing to appropriate God's blessings by faith - the warning of Shiloh; Jos 17.
    Announcementsopening prayer:
There should not have been one uttering of complaint from the sons of Joseph for their land allotment. After all, they should know that God is in charge of the lottery. Rather they should have thanked Him for the opportunity to fight the remaining Canaanites that seemed to retain some strength.
Jos 17:14 Then the sons of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, "Why have you given me only one lot and one portion for an inheritance, since I am a numerous people whom the Lord has thus far blessed?"
Jos 17:15 And Joshua said to them, "If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest and clear a place for yourself there in the land...
