The Word of God is a scalpel in the hand of our master surgeon,Jesus our Great High Priest. Jesus will use the Word to do spiritual surgery to bring spiritual healing so that we can enjoy the rest He has for us. However, we must yield to the touch of our Physician and draw near unto Him.

God offers us spiritual rest for our souls. Regardless of the circumstances of our lives we can experience peace, hope, and joy when we trust God by faith and yield to Him.
Two enemies that we must be aware of that can rob us of our rest are panic and pride.
Panic leads us to run from our perceived giants in fear and miss out on God’s rest.
Pride leads us to fight our own battles without God and miss out on God’s rest.

When we doubt God's Word and fail to obey, our hearts can harden toward Him. The author of Hebrews uses a historical account from Israel's past to illustrate the danger of doubting God and allowing our hearts to become hardened.

Jesus is greater than the angels not only because He is deity but also because He is a man.
His humanity enabled Him to regain man's lost dominion.
His humanity enabled Him to bring many sons to glory.
His humanity enabled Him to disarm Satan and deliver us from death.
His humanity enables Him to be a sympathetic High Priest to His people.

Because Jesus is greater, and because we are the inheritors of salvation freely, we must pay close attention lest we drift from the foundation of the gospel. If we neglect our salvation, there will be negative consequences.

The Jews held the OT Prophets and Angels in the highest regard as messengers. Both gave bits and pieces of God's revelation, but only Jesus has given us God's full revelation.
