A fun book for learning about US History
"Patriot Courage: A story about the Boston Tea Party" by Al Rocca is the story of two best friends, Peter and Daniel, living in the years leading up to the Revolutionary War. I gained a lot of knowledge about the Boston Tea Party from this book, and had much more fun while learning it than I would have had while reading a textbook. I think books like this are a great way to interest kids in learning about history because they can relate to the experiences of kids their age, rather than just the adults involved. I know this from experience, as I used to read numerous books about fictional children who lived in the US during different historical periods. This review was written by Bryce G.
Learn history while enjoying a good story!
Take it from this elementary school librarian, this book is a perfect way to dive into early American history. It's a must for every fifth grade classroom. 'Love the primary source documents listed at the end of the book.
Patriot Courage Historical Fiction
Though this book is great for any history enthusiast, it is geared toward a younger audience and is written simply. It transitions into the story of the infamous Boston tea party. It is excellent for sneaking in facts that are crucial for that period in history. I would recommend as a great read for younger readers.
for children and adults
Read this to your child and discuss it. Make more sense out of what is happening today with the current tea party movement. Make them aware of the historical perspective which they might not be learning in school (K-college!). History repeats itself!
