  • Ep. 344 Today's Peep Peeks Behind the Mic: When Breaking News Hits (Helicopter Crash) the Whole Show Plan Changes- You Learn how a Daily Show really gets built

Plans vanished the moment the phones blew up. We set out to walk you through how a daily show gets made—music cues, topic lists, the dance between light and heavy—and then a Medevac helicopter crashed on Highway 50. What followed was a live pivot: verified details, road closures, the improbable luck of a construction zone, and the kind of bystander courage that makes you stop and breathe. You’ll hear how we balance urgency with empathy while keeping the lines open for a city that needed clarity and a calm voice.

Once the ground steadied, we rewound and opened our notebook. We talk through the real mechanics of building ten shows a week: collecting weekend observations, scoring topics for caller energy, and using “stuff we couldn’t get to” as both a promise and a pressure valve. From Rite Aid closures and the future of Thrifty ice cream to why adults love going all-in on Halloween, we map how a night’s tone gets set—and why it matters for engagement and time spent listening. We dig into Uber’s women-only request option and the trade-offs baked into California’s red-light camera bill, where lower fines, looser identification, and higher collections collide with fairness and oversight.

To keep the ride human, we layer in culture and wonder: rock-world spats for levity, sports quick hits for communal rhythm, and Voyager 1’s improbable radio revival 15 billion miles away for perspective. We also shout out local artists and share merch that celebrates Sacramento staples like Tower Records and Sam’s Hofbrau, because the show lives where the community lives. Hit play for a night that teaches exactly how a talk show breathes under pressure—craft, chaos, callers, and care working in sync. If this resonated, follow, share with a friend, and drop a review telling us which segment stuck with you most.

  • Ep. 342 Today's Peep Celebrates A Record Day for Downloads, Stumbles into a Brand New Playground, Infamous Outbursts from Buddy Rich, Casey Kasem and William Shatner

A rainy fall morning, a record day of downloads, and a park that literally changed overnight—sometimes the smallest surprises set up the biggest questions. We stumbled onto a brand-new playground where a restroom used to be, tested the slide with more courage than grace, and used that jolt of change to explore the hidden pressure behind great performances. From there, we traveled into the tape archive of infamous studio blowups: Buddy Rich’s volcanic bus tirades, Casey Kasem’s whiplash between up-tempo hits and a tender dedication, and William Shatner’s surgical takedown of vague direction in a recording booth.

What ties a surprise slide to a studio meltdown? Expectations, transitions, and the fragile craft of keeping things smooth when the world is not. We talk about perfectionism and its double edge—how high standards lift music, radio, and live shows, but can also scorch the people who make them. Buddy Rich’s temper sits alongside his genius; Kasem’s outburst reveals how tone is a real editorial problem, not just a vibe; Shatner’s exchange shows why creative feedback must be specific and owned. We ground those moments in our own day: gratitude for your support, a shout to local businesses, a birthday nod to a superfan, and the calming snap of a flawless Tom Petty promo 45 sliding from its sleeve.

If you geek out on radio history, production war stories, or the psychology of performance under pressure, you’ll feel right at home. And if you just needed a smile, picture an adult discovering that modern slides are faster than they look. Thanks for listening and helping us hit a new high-water mark. Follow the show, share it with a friend who loves behind-the-scenes audio lore, and leave a quick review—what meltdown taught you the most about craft?

  • Ep. 340 Today's Peep Enjoys Gray Skies, Fast Strides, A Weekend Football Recap, Bad Workout Videos and Calls Out Bad Fan Behavior from the Weekend's Ryder Cup in New York

A gray morning, a faster pace, and a head full of sports and music—sometimes the best conversations start on a walk. We kick things off with the simple joy of moving, then ride the high of a Dodgers sweep in Seattle and cut through the easy “they bought it” narrative with real stories of development, reinvention, and a farm system that keeps the engine running. From there, we pivot to the NFL’s weekly reality check: injuries that bend storylines, Max Crosby bulldozing through blocks like a one-man storm, and a wide-open NFC West that feels one big play away from a reshuffle.

We also talk place, ritual, and what it means to belong to a team. Home stadiums that don’t always feel like home, a friend remembered with a jersey and a quick tap for luck, and a Thursday night Rams–49ers tilt that puts health, coaching, and nerve to the test. Puka Nacua’s rise gets real attention—13 catches, 170 yards, and the kind of toughness that makes defensive backs think twice. He’s not just a hot hand; he’s a compass for where the offense wants to go.

Then there’s the other side of fandom: when the noise goes too far. The Ryder Cup showcased world-class golf and some bottom-shelf behavior, from heckling during strokes to a drink thrown at a player’s spouse. We draw the line, plainly—cheer loud, keep it fair, and remember that respect is part of the game. To cool the jets, we end with a needle drop: a white-label Motown 45, the Jackson 5, and a few quiet minutes to breathe. It’s the reset that makes the next stride possible.

If this mix of walking wins, Dodgers grit, Rams hope, and a plea for better fan etiquette hits home, tap follow, share with a friend who loves sports with soul, and leave a quick review telling us your take on where passion ends and respect begins.

  • Special Episode: Pat's Peeps Watches Saturday Morning Cartoons, Cancel Culture Comes for Our Childhood Cartoons, Why Can't We Just Enjoy Old Cartoons Anymore?

Nostalgia hits hard when seemingly innocent childhood memories collide with modern sensibilities. This unexpected Saturday morning podcast was sparked when Pat Walsh discovered a YouTube critique calling The Hillbilly Bears cartoon an offensive mockery of rural poverty—a take that completely contradicts his fond childhood experiences with these beloved characters.

Throughout this delightful trip down memory lane, Pat pushes back against what he sees as misguided retroactive criticism of classic cartoons. From the unintelligible but lovable Paw Rugg to Slow Poke Rodriguez ("the slowest mouse in all Mexico") and the Go-Go Gophers, these weren't harmful stereotypes to children of the 60s and 70s—they were simply fun, memorable characters who made Saturday mornings magical.

Pat's remarkable recall of obscure cartoons—spontaneously singing theme songs and mimicking character voices from shows he hasn't seen in over 50 years—demonstrates just how deeply these programs embedded themselves in the psyches of their young viewers. Tennessee Tuxedo and his walrus friend Chumley visiting Mr. Whoopee's 3D BB (three-dimensional blackboard), the heroic antics of Underdog, the adventures of Roger Ramjet, and the bizarre Dodo the Kid from Outer Space all make appearances in this cartoon cavalcade.

The podcast ultimately challenges us to consider how we view entertainment from previous eras. Should we judge these cartoons by contemporary standards, or can we appreciate them for what they meant to children at the time—pure joy, adventure, and sometimes even valuable life lessons? As classic cartoons continue to disappear from our cultural landscape, Pat reminds us what we might be losing in our rush to apply modern critiques to the innocent pleasures of childhood.

What cartoon characters from your youth would never make it to air today? Which forgotten Saturday morning favorites do you still remember fondly despite—or perhaps because of—their quirks and imperfections?

  • Ep. 339 Today's Peep Brings Cracker Jack Nostalgia, New Music from Robert Plant and his new Band, Tacos, Teeth, Remembering Phil Hartman and the Brother of a Rolling Stone

Ever had your face go numb at the dentist and then immediately tried to drink hot coffee? On this delightfully meandering Friday episode, I take you along for the ride as I navigate dental misadventures with temporary crowns and strict warnings against anything crunchy or sticky – which naturally leads to a nostalgic dive into the disappointing evolution of Cracker Jack prizes from actual toys to mere QR code stickers.

Music lovers will appreciate the exclusive first listen to Robert Plant's surprising new band, Saving Grace, featuring vocalist Susie Deanne. The legendary Led Zeppelin frontman's voice takes a backseat in this new collaborative project that sounds nothing like his iconic past work. I share my personal regret about the time I spotted Plant in Napa but was too starstruck to introduce myself – a moment of vulnerability many music fans will understand.

Between recounting my participation in a charity taco eating contest with local media personalities and celebrating the comedic genius of the late Phil Hartman through his iconic SNL impressions, this episode captures the joy of Friday conversations among friends. We wrap with perhaps the most unexpected discovery: listening to Cajun-influenced music from Chris Jagger – yes, Mick's brother – whose sound couldn't be further from the Rolling Stones. Join me for this journey through dental woes, nostalgic snacks, rock legends, and hidden musical connections that make life's random moments worth sharing.

  • Ep. 336 Today's Peep Walks Through Frustration, "Doom Scrolling" for Dopamine: When a Bad Start to your Day Turns Good, Irish Tempers, Linda and a Calming, Friendly Yellow Lab Named Chloe which happens to be the name of this Long-Lost Elton John Tune

Have you ever had one of those days that starts with frustration but ends with unexpected joy? Join me on a therapeutic walk through my property as I process the aggravation of being turned away from a doctor's appointment despite having been a patient there for over two decades.

The morning began with a 45-minute drive to a medical appointment for a concerning skin lesion, only to be told they couldn't find my insurance information. Despite explaining I'd been going to this office since around 2000 with the same insurance, I was sent home without being seen. Anyone who claims they wouldn't be upset in this situation is likely not being honest with themselves!

But here's where things take a turn. Rather than letting frustration consume me, I laced up my shoes and headed outdoors. As I walk through beautiful scenery on this hot September day, I reflect on what I call my "Irish temper" – that tendency to remain calm most of the time but occasionally reach a boiling point when pushed too far. The physical activity helps regulate those emotions while providing much-needed exercise.

The podcast takes a fascinating turn when I encounter Linda and her yellow Labrador, Chloe, at the local park. This chance meeting transforms my mood completely as I throw balls for the energetic dog and chat with Linda about the community of dog owners who gather there daily. It's a powerful reminder that human connection and simple joys can be the perfect antidote to life's frustrations.

I also explore the concept of "doom scrolling" and its harmful effects on mental health, contrasting it with the natural dopamine and serotonin release that comes from physical activity and positive social interactions. Why seek negativity online when the real world offers so much genuine happiness?

Take a walk with me through this day of contrasts and discover how stepping outside – both literally and figuratively – can transform even the most frustrating experiences into meaningful moments of connection and joy.
