  • The Phoenix Garden

Hello from St. Giles Passage in London. I made a little phone video of a small beloved garden steps away from St. Giles Church in Covent Garden. I will be sending an installment of The Coral Sea for my subscribers early this evening. Sending all good wishes as I drink my tea in the library of my hotel.

  • March First

Hello everyone. I am in Mexico City as I have a performance with Soundwalk Collection this evening. I am staying in the heart of the city and it is beating madly. Presidential elections are looming and the streets are teeming with people, marching, delivering speeches on loud speakers and singing. Lenny Kaye is with me and we took a long walk around the ancient churches, the outdoor markets and the hundreds if not thousands of future voters. I am battling altitude sickness but I think I will be fine. I bought a clay bird at the market and am already quite fond of it. It was the only one and has a chipped beak.Right now I am resting and finishing a book given to me before my journey. There is a nice view from my room and I made a silent video for you with my phone.

Today would be my 44th wedding anniversary. Fred and I were married on a leap year so it feels deeply nostalgic. The ivy beyond my windows here reminds me of our home in Michigan, an old stone country house covered with ivy. Tonight after my performance with Soundwalk, Lenny and I will do an acoustic version of Because the Night for Fred, who inspired the lyrics. Then People have the power, which Fred and I wrote, in honor of all the people filling the streets here in Mexico City preparing to vote. Hopefully I will be able to send some videos.

Well, rest period is over, have to go to work. Below are a couple pictures sent with all good wishes from the heart of Mexico City. I will send more later…..

  • Saying hello from Guadalajara

Well, I realized that yesterday I sent pictures of the rocks. I was so tired yesterday that I forgot. So I will find new images and send them.Below is the magnificient ceiling mural by the artist Jose Clemente Orozco and a statue in his honor. The domed mural is the centerpiece of the room we had our press conference. My collaborator Stefan from Soundwalk Collective can be seen gazing at it. I will send more soon. Now I most go to work. Good wishes to all….

  • No longer backwards

Well another ramble but this time with added last minute excitement. I suddenly figured out how to reverse the video so the book titles aren’t backwards. The rest is just usual hanging out stuff including a note about dental floss and eight lines of Baudelaire.

We might find it somewhat shocking to see a non reverse. But I also know how to just let it all stay backwards. That is our full moon quandary…

Have a good prime number night.

  • A rambling visit imaginary candle

This is Jem Cohen’s film. I’m wearing my favorite skirt.

It’s a dreamy kind of day. Not many words are flowing. Perhaps more tomorrow. but happy just to sit and talk happily about not too much.

Happy birthday Kurt Cobain. See you all soon….

  • Georgia for Georgia

This evening at Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Tony Shanahan, my daughter Jesse, and I will perform in honor of Georgia O’Keefe. It’s always wonderful to join our friends at the Gardens and present a show in tandem with their inspiring exhibitions. In the course of the night, Tony and I will be doing a short version of Georgia for the artist, so we are going over keys. I thought it might be fun to share a little of our process.

Earlier the three of us spent time on the beach, a nice contrast to the snow we left behind in the city.

Thank you everyone for stopping by. Thank you Jesse, for the pictures. Hoping everyone has a nice evening, tranquil yet uplifting.

  • Happy Lunar New Year

Hello everyone. Happy New Lunar Year. May the wood dragon be with you in a benevolent capacity. Above is the wondrous Meryl Streep speaking of her role as Mother Courage, including the lullaby for her children.

I have a job tonight so I will be brief. On Sunday Founding Members and Subscribers will receive The Jerusalem text. Happy year of the wood dragon, happy birthday to Bertolt Brecht. The new moon cannot be seen but is there smiling upon us all.
