Matterport helps companies and individuals create virtual versions of 3D spaces. It’s a 3D capture company. If you’ve ever been on Redfin or any real estate website, you might’ve seen these models. These interactive representations of the real world help people analyze properties without actually having to physically be in them. To create a digital twin, customers use cameras to capture their space. After the space is captured, they upload the data to Matterport, which processes it and creates a digital twin that the customer can interact with and analyze. This concept is extremely interesting as anyone will be able to create realistic versions of the physical world that anyone else can access and analyze virtually, saving time and money as well. The concept is especially interesting considering the trend of home sales going more and more online. Looking at their business model , they follow a freemium subscription model, meaning they offer a free tier where anyone can access the Matterport technology, but in order to publish files and share with others, customers need to pay the company a monthly subscription. Fees for one person usually is around $10 dollars. Revenue doesn’t only stem from their subscriptions. Half of their revenue stems from camera sales and licensing of their technology. However by 2025, subscription is supposed to represent around 86% of their revenue, making this segment of the business most important for investors.
