The Pawnee short ‘u’, is pronounced like the ‘u’ in bush, push, cushion, and the vowel sound in foot and book. We’ll go over all the Pawnee vowel sounds in episode 6.
The [ ’ ] is a glottal stop, telling the speaker to clip that final ‘u’, don’t drag it out.
