-------------------
Ps William HC speaking from 1 Corinthians 10:1-11:1.
In 1 Cor 10:1– 11:1, Paul warns those loved in Christ to flee idolatry and to do all for the glory of God.
Examples from Israel’s past failures (10:1-22)Warning: when God’s people defy him, they are destroyed (v1-11)Pride comes before the fall! (v12)Yet God is faithful and offers a way out of every temptation (v13) So dear friends, flee from idolatry (v14)For eating and drinking have spiritual significance (v15-22)
Some scenarios the Corinthians faced (10:23–11:1)
BBQ at the temple? No. (v23-24)Meat from the market for home? Yes. (v25)A complex situation: dining with non-Christian and Christian friends (v26-30)Living for God's glory (Christian ethics):
Does the Bible allow it for us today?Does my conscience allow it at this time? What is the impact on my Christian family? (Love > my knowledge)What is the effect on non-Christians? (Gospel > my rights)What is the effect on my spiritual life? (God’s glory > my freedom)
