Allen retired last year from the Portland Veterans Health Care System, and is now busy creating a second life for himself through stand-up comedy, writing, storytelling and spending time with his spouse. Allen’s philosophy: 'You're only given one little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.' His story is about how he first began to love and connect with someone in the world and started to feel regard for himself, as well.

Julie Rosenberg is a psychiatrist and has called Portland home for the past 15 years. Her story takes place during a 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat.
