Every night we have a guest speaker. Tonight it was Josiah. Josiah shares the truth that having a secure identity impacts every area of our lives.
He explores what identity is, defining it as a sense of self, knowledge of who you are, and most importantly, your worth and value.
Josiah splits his message into two parts: "The Great Lie" and "The Great Truth."
The Great Lie:
This is the worldly view that identity is based on achievements, feelings, or how you compare to others. If your identity is built on success, it will also be crushed by failure, leading to insecurity, fear, and a cycle of striving.
Even good things (like careers, skills, or relationships) can become harmful if they become the core of your worth, because they’re fragile and temporary.
The Great Truth:
True identity comes from Jesus Christ, and it’s not something you earn—it's something you accept.
Josiah outlines four truths about identity in Christ:
- You are a child of God – God calls us His sons and daughters (2 Corinthians 6:18).
- You are here for a reason – You were created intentionally, not by accident (Jeremiah 1:5).
- You are not a mistake – You were fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13–14).
- You have a future – God has plans for your life, full of hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
He concludes with Galatians 2:20, encouraging us to give up worldly definitions of identity and accept what God says about us. Josiah challenges us to embrace our true identity in Christ.
