Summary

What does it mean to follow Christ in a world that doesn’t?

In the final sermon from the Peculiar People series, we’re reminded not to be surprised by suffering—but to expect it. The Christian life is not a shortcut to comfort or success. It is a journey shaped by the cross before the crown. Just as Christ suffered and was glorified, so too His people will endure trials that refine their faith.

Rather than despair, Peter calls us to rejoice in the midst of fiery trials, seeing them as evidence that we belong to God and share in Christ’s life. These trials are not punishment, but purification—God strengthening His Church and preparing His people for eternal glory.

The sermon also highlights how God cares for His Church through faithful pastors, called to shepherd with humility, integrity, and devotion to the Word. And as members of Christ’s household, we are called to receive that care, remain steadfast, and support one another through the storm.
