Ever wondered how I keep track of 170+ tobacco pipes?
In this video I walk through my full cataloging workflow — turning each pipe rundown video into a searchable, automated note system using Obsidian, AI, and a free GitHub-hosted website.
The public notes are here: www.molvorin.github.io
I show how I get clean subtitles by combining YouTube's timing with PeerTube's better speech recognition, then feed the transcript through an AI to auto-generate a video title, description, timestamps, hashtags, and individual notes for every pipe. I make sure to invlude the manufacturer, model, condition, and my own preference ratings, as well as information on what video they were featured in and in what sequence.
From there, a Python script builds the Obsidian notes automatically, and the whole catalog gets published online for free through GitHub Pages. It's a bit nerdy and a bit improvised, but it works — and it might give you ideas for cataloging your own collection, whatever it is. At least it helps me to keep track of the pipes that I have
If you collect pipes (or anything else) and want a low-cost way to organize and share it, this one might be for you, but it does have a heavy learning curve if you are not very technically alligned
👉 Got a better way to do this, or know any of the mystery no-name pipes in my collection? Let me know in the comments!
