  • Portland on DV - Beaverton Celebration Parade (No Music)

Had a blast at such an inclusive, community-wide event with my SD camcorder. Filmed in Beaverton, Oregon on September 6, 2025.

    FUN FACTS:

    • Standard Definition (SD) video is only 16% the resolution of High Definition (HD), and a microscopic 4% the resolution of 4K. Captured on small cassette tapes, the Mini DV format was popular back in the late '90s through early 2000s.
    • Numerous feature films have been shot on this format, such as Thomas Vinterberg's very first Dogme 95 picture "Festen," Danny Boyle's zombie hit "28 Days Later," and David Lynch's final film "Inland Empire."
    • For me, Mini DV has a very dreamlike, muted softness to it that I love. It's easily a close second favorite format of mine next to Super 8mm/Super 16mm film.
    • EQUIPMENT:

      • Camera: Canon XL2 SD camcorder
      • Lens: Canon 20x Zoom XL 5.4-108mm L IS

      • Frame Rate: 23.976

      • Portland on Tape - PDX Terminal (No Music)

Ever since its expansive upgrades, Portland International Airport's gargantuan size has added a kind of blissful liminal space quality to it that I can't get enough of; I hope you enjoy its beauty, too! Filmed in Portland, Oregon on November 6, 2025.

I grew up watching my favorite movies on VHS, and Portland is just the city for that analog feel. I know I'm right at home with the dreamy look of magnetic tape.

      • CAN bus state-of-charge display using Teensy 4.0 board

This is a CAN bus state-of-charge meter based on a Teensy 4.0. Teensy's aren't the cheapest boards (an STM32 is a tenth of the price), but they are tiny, have on-board CAN and are very easy to develop for.

        Instructions here: https://openinverter.org/wiki/State_of_Charge_meter_using_a_Teensy_4.0

It displays a state-of-charge or voltage value according the integer number sent over CAN bus to the configured address(es)

SoC values between 0 and 1000 will be displayed as " 0.0" to "100 ". The display flashes " 0.0" when it reaches zero. Anything else (or no data) will be displayed as "----"

Voltage values between 1 and 999 will be displayed as " 1V" to "999V ". Anything else (or no data) will be displayed as "---V"

A touch sensor allows you to toggle the display between SoC and voltage.

It includes automatic night time dimming.

      • Testing analogue throttle on Arduino

This video shows a quick test of a Peugeot HDi analogue throttle controller hooked up to an Arduino Uno. This setup uses both analogue channels for security, and gracefully handles errors such as sensor wiring faults and noise.

You can download the source code from my GitHub here: https://github.com/clanger9/electricdart/blob/master/throttle_position.ino
