  • How to load your passwords and bookmarks from Google Chrome on Windows that you saved to a USB stick into Chro

#How to load your passwords and bookmarks from Google Chrome on Windows that you saved to a USB stick into Chromium on Linux.

This video shows all the steps necessary to do this.

    ##Script

How to load your passwords and bookmarks from Google Chrome on Windows that you saved to a USB stick into Chromium on Linux

Chromium is the open source version of Chrome, and it may be more comfortable for people who prefer Chrome to Edge or other browsers. Chromium is not installed by default on Linux Mint, so you have to install it first. This video will show you how to do that, and then how to import your previously saved passwords and bookmarks from Chrome from your USB stick.

    1. In Linux Mint, insert your USB stick into your computer. A file browser window should appear, showing you the files on it.
    2. Now you need to install Chromium on your computer. Click on the Linux Mint menu button at the bottom left of your screen, then on Administration, and then ASoftware Manager.
    3. The software manager window will open, and update its indexes, which may take a minute or so.
    4. Once the featured apps appear, click on the search field at the top left of the window, and type in chromium. After a second or so, a list of matching apps appears. Click on the one that says Chromium web browser.
    5. The information page for Chromium appears. Click on the Install button at the top right of the screen.
    6. You will be prompted for your password. Once you have entered it, click on the Authenticate button. The chromium package will be downloaded and installed. This may take a few seconds.
    7. Once installation has finished, the Install button is replaced by a Launch and a Remove button. Click on the Launch button.
    8. Once Chromium has opened, you can import your passwords and bookmarks. We will start with your bookmarks.
    9. Click on the three dots menu button on the top right of the window, then click on Bookmarks and lists, and qwthen Bookark manager. You will notice how similar the menus look to Chrome on Windows.
    10. The Bookmarks manager screen opens. Click on the three dots menu to the right of the Search bookmarks field, then on Import bookmarks.
    11. The Open File selector appears. Find your USB stick on the panel on the left, and click on it.
    12. You should see your chrome bookmarks file that you exported from chrome on windows. Click on it, and then on the Select button on the bottom right.
    13. Now open up the Bookmarks bar by clicking on the little triangle just to the left of it, and then the triangle next to the Imported sub folder. Inside there, you should see another Bookmarks bar folder. Click on it, and you should see all of your bookmarks displayed.
    14. Click on one of the bookmarks, and then press control and A together on your keyboard. All the bookmarks should then be highlighted in light blue. Click and drag them to the top Bookmarks bar folder on the left.
    15. The bookmarks will then disappear from the right panel, because they have been moved to the Bookmarks bar. Click on the top Bookmarks bar folder again, and you should now see your bookmarks in there.
    16. They will also appear on the bookmarks bar at the top of the window.
    17. Now we will import your passwords. Again, click on the three dots menu at the top right of the window, then on Passwords and autofill, then Password Manager.
    18. The password Manager screen appears, now click on Settings on the left side, then find the Import passwords section on the right panel, and click the Select file button to the right of it.
    19. The Import passwords to Chromium file selector appears. Again, find your USB stick on the left panel, and click it. You should then see your Chrome passwords file that you exported from Chrome on windows. Click on it, and then on the Select button on the bottom right.
    20. A message should then display informing you that the import was successful, and how many passwords were imported. Click on the View passwords button.
    21. A list of passwords that you had saved on Chrome on Windows should then be displayed. You can click on them to see the details saved. Click on the left-facing arrow button to return to the main password list.
    22. Once you are sure you have all of your bookmarks and passwords imported into Chromium, you should probably delete the files off your USB stick.

      ABOUT ROBERTA FIDORA

Falling somewhere between Bet Lynch, David Lynch, Laurie Anderson and Gerry Anderson, with polite nods to Toyah, Amanda Lear, Siouxsie, Alison Moyet and Sparks, Roberta Fidora is a musician, amateur biography writer and person of disinterest based at the bottom of the UK (previously releasing music under the moniker CURXES) whose output has incorporated everything from broadcasts in dark forests and giant dancing bear puppets to depressed budgerigars, abandoned rocket testing sites and human taxidermy displays, getting shout-outs from the likes of MOJO magazine, The Independent, The Guardian and BBC6Music along the way. She has also contributed to the field recording project Cities & Memory, with the track Huygens appearing on the accompanying CD to Electronic Sound’s special field recording issue, as well as numerous other electronic/electroclash/synthpop releases which can be found on her website: https://www.robertafidora.com.
