A lesson in Dachshund stubbornness (or perhaps just high standards) unfolds on a cozy grey-green sofa. Meet Bas, a long-haired black and tan dachshund who has mastered the art of "selective listening."

He sits up just enough to lean against a floral-patterned pillow, offering a skeptical side-eye that says, "I’m listening, but I’m not yet convinced."
It isn't until Cynni mentions a "snackje" that Bas shows a flicker of interest, though he mostly seems suspicious of the camera. The video captures the peak of "low-energy negotiation," as Bas weighs the benefits of a treat against the undeniable comfort of his nap spot.

Finally I found the graveyard where my grandparents lay,
Slain by the Saint
who had once held this land in safety.
It wasn't just them:
rows upon rows of graves
for forgotten people from our surrounding villages.
They rested here now.
I wept for my grandparents.
I wept for our history.
I wept the same way she had wept for her father
before she let the weeping turn her into Anger.
Though, it struck me she was burying their bodies.
Maybe Anger had an ember of Soul inside still.
