Back at it with another Photomator edit — this time a macro RAW I shot about a month ago at Lake Daylesford, Victoria, while I was out with the family. Two beautiful mushrooms leaning into each other like they're hugging and kissing, with a single rose petal that happened to land right at their feet. I nearly removed that petal on the day… glad I didn't, because it's the whole story.
In this one I walk through my full RAW workflow: nailing the composition, isolating the subject, working the highlights and shadows, grading with the 3-way colour tool, pulling the pink out of that petal, a bit of healing/cloning (and a chat about how far is too far with AI retouching), then darkening the background to make the mushrooms pop. I finish by exporting both a JPEG and a full 16-bit TIFF at original size.
A quick note on my setup: I edit in Photomator on my Mac but mirror the display onto my iPad because I love the colour grading on that screen. I keep everything on my own NAS rather than the cloud — I just prefer having my files local.
🍄 I still haven't identified these two — if you know what they are, drop it in the comments, I'd love to know!
