Peggy Oliveira: Courageous Journeys - Shining The Light On Shame

We begin by really defining what sexual abuse is and why healing is so beautiful and important in one's journey from sexual abuse and trauma. "We all struggle. The more that we are willing, as a planet to acknowledge that and not think that success equals no struggle... The more that we can be honest about that the more that we can show up and be authentic and honor the reality of where we're at. Healing is a lifelong journey. Nobody ever gets to a place where they never struggle again. It means it doesn't have the impact on your any longer, it means when you do struggle it takes you a couple of hours or a couple of days, instead of months or years to get over. And when you don't feel the shame you then reach out when you're struggling. When you do feel the shame you don't reach out because you feel like you shouldn't be struggling and people would judge you if they knew you were struggling." Peggy shares her expertise as a trauma therapist and her first-hand personal experience of childhood abuse to share a message of hope for healing.
