    Dr. Shamon is a landscape ecologist and mammalogist at Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Conservation Ecology Center. Shamon’s research interests focus on anthropogenic activity and land use changes effects on terrestrial mammals’ distribution and densities across large landscape gradients. Today we talk about her work with the American Bison and Swift Fox in and around Montana where she lives. She is doing so much amazing work for both species, so thank you to the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute for their help and time and all of the work they do!

    In this episode of The Possibilists we talk with Dr. Rafael Chiaravalloti, a Smithsonian postdoctoral fellow working in the Pantanal area of Brazil, his home nation. Rafael is a biologist, anthropologist, and conservation social scientist with experience all over the world, and over 10 years of experience in the Pantanal where he has focused on the sustainability of socio-ecological systems.
    Rafael went from working with biological resources to working with local communities to understand their sustainable agricultural processes. His work, including two books, is the kind of thing that conservation needs more of.
