Harness racing returns to Miami this weekend, with organizers hoping strong competition, free admission and favourable weather will draw fans to the track.
The opening race card begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Miami racetrack. Racing will also return the following Saturday, July 25th, before the season shifts to Winnipeg for another 10 weekends of competition.
"Once it's in your blood, it does not go away." - Mike Williams, President of the Manitoba Harness Horsemen.
Mike Williams, president of the Manitoba Harness Horsemen, said this year's lineup includes some of the strongest horses he's seen in decades of involvement with the sport.
"We've got horses from B.C., Alberta, Ontario, and all the years that I've been racing on the circuit, this is the best crop of horses that I've seen," Williams said. "I think the people that come out and watch that know anything about horse racing are going to be amazed."
