What is holding you captive? For eighteen years, a woman was bent over, bound by Satan and overlooked by everyone. Then Jesus saw her and set her free. As he does, he shows us that no chain is too tight for him to break. Jesus came to set captives free. Where do you need to experience his freedom?

The suffering we see in the world should serve as a sobering reminder of the destruction that awaits all of us if we fail to repent. Yet, in His infinite patience and mercy, God continues to call us back to Him. If you hear His voice today, let us not harden our hearts. Let’s turn back to Him.

We’re good at getting ready when we know the countdown. But what happens when there’s no date on the calendar, only a promise? Jesus says he is coming again, but he doesn’t tell us when. So how do you live when you know he’s coming, but you can’t hear the numbers? Ready or not, here he comes.

We spend our lives trying to make sure there will be enough: money, time, security; the list goes on. But the more we try to secure, the more anxious we can become. Jesus gives a surprising invitation: look at the birds, consider the flowers. What might they know about the life we’re desperately trying to hold together?

What calls for your attention in life? Responsibilities? Desires? Routine maintenance of life? These easily lock our focus on this world - what we want from it and what it requires in return. Yet, as Jesus redirects our attention to an eternal life with God, how does that affect how we approach our resources, responsibility, and purpose?

Small attitudes and actions act like "sourdough starter" (leaven), silently spreading to transform the entire “spiritual dough” of our lives for better or worse. By orienting our lives to Jesus, we embrace healthy rhythms that affect our relationship with God and others.

We’ve all been at that lunch where one person says the thing no one else dared to. This week, Jesus is that person. The ones who invited him never saw it coming. In Luke 11:37-54 Jesus pulls back the surface and reveals it’s possible to appear faithful and still miss the heart of God: justice, mercy, love and care for people. How do we know when we’ve missed God’s Heart?

Jesus makes it clear that there is no middle ground. As the kingdom of God advances and the power of Satan crumbles, we are called to choose where our allegiance lies. The beauty and the power of the gospel invite us to the same choice every time: choose Jesus.

Prayer was never meant to be a password whispered to a distant God. In Luke 11, Jesus invites us beyond formula and into a relationship, where ordinary needs, deepest fears, and unanswered questions all have a place. Here prayer is marked by a surprising boldness rooted in who is on the other side of the door.

Jesus says that “one thing is necessary”: “the good portion.” Yes, but what is it?
