Biblical leadership, as exemplified by Nehemiah in Chapter 5, is always service-oreinted. We are to be working for the good of those around us.

Nehemiah told the workers building the wall to carry a sword while they worked, because opposition was building up. Our missions work the same way; there is always opposition to our work for God.

Out of a God-given vision comes a God-given mission. The mission is hard and requires working with others for a common cause. It is important for us to continue working to accomplish God's mission for this world.

Once God has birthed a burden in us, He can create a vision for us. That vision guides our work. Nehemiah Chapter 2 tells the story of a great vision borne from burden.

Starting a series on the book of Nehemiah, we look at how a person gains the drive to do great things. Nehemiah heard about the need for a wall around Jerusalem and the burden grew into a vision of self-sacrifice.

Often times we find ourselves blaming circumstance for our perceived victimhood. God met with Jacob and taught him to accept the blame for his actions, and it worked to Jacob's benefit. It will work for us as well.
