I’m so excited to bring you a conversation today with Ian Oshér! He’s an artist that I happened upon going to gigs in Los Angeles and instantly felt very drawn to the medicine in his music — Ian is a writer that taps into healing, self-care, addiction, and spirituality through his writing and on some of the bills I’ve seen him on it’s felt like a strong but refreshing contrast to the messages the other artists were purveying and just generally we normally get through music. Ian taps into a vulnerability and positivity that creates that sense of community and likemindedness that made me very eager to chat with him about his story and I’m excited to share this with you today!

Today I'm joined by FLASCH, a Los Angeles-based gender and genre non-conforming non-binary musician, director, stylist, videographer, photographer! We’re chatting about the meaning & process behind Flasch’s music and videos, the experience of moving to Los Angeles and how identity evolves. FLASCH tells their stories of self, love, spirituality, and gender identity through their songs. FLASCH releases a new song and music video every single month and was one of the first people I met when I came to LA, they were at the first two gigs I went to as both a performer and photographer and I was just drawn to them instantly like, wow. Multi-talented, such an incredible lyricist, amazing style, I want to get know you. And now here we are, I’m so stoked to give you this conversation! We recorded this before we actually worked together, so if you listen now we don’t mention our video together, but hopefully we’ll cover it in a future episode!

Hello and welcome to Penny’s Two Cents! I am stoked to be sharing some conversations about music, wellbeing, the environment, creativity, all the things that make us human with you.

I’m Penny Eau and I’m a singer/songwriter firstly and that’s what’s prompted me to start this podcast — there’s so much depth behind a song, I wanted to open a space to chat with some of my favourite musicians and talk about their work so we can hear the stories and experiences that bring songs from nothingness into this physical plane. There’s so many amazing writers using their platform to spread a message or speak on current events and I’m constantly excited by the connection music creates so I’m stoked to have some meaningful conversations on here.

I’ve got guests coming on from all over the shop to give you their two cents as well. Most of these will be musicians and songwriters but you’ll certainly find others in here — I’ve been so lucky to be surrounded by such a diverse community of creatives I’m looking forward to diving into other mediums and means of communication on here also.
