John W. Rogers Jr. and Mellody Hobson, who share the co-CEO title at Ariel Investments, one of the most influential minority-owned global asset management firms, sat down in early April for their first joint Face to Face interview with Pensions & Investments in Chicago, against the backdrop of the Silicon Valley Bank collapse and another dose of Federal Reserve rate hikes.

Macroeconomic hedge funds aim to anticipate moves in financial markets, such as the direction of interest rates, currencies, stocks, bonds, and commodities, and these funds were among the few to make money in 2022. Kenneth "Ken" Tropin's hedge fund Graham Capital Management was among the winners.

The U.S. economy is "not in a recession," and the Federal Reserve is likely to raise interest rates "one or two more times," said fixed-income expert and economist Mohamed El-Erian.
