June 08, 2018Audrey Knows About Building On Small Successes
Audrey Wick is a full time professor of English at Blinn College in Texas. Her diverse writing includes short stories, non fiction and ghost writing projects. I recently read her novel Finding True North and a second novel Coming Home is due to be released in July 2018. During our conversation, Audrey shared her experiences and wisdom with the editing process, the difference between personal writing and writing we want to share, and what to do if you don’t quite know what you want to be when you grow up. I loved her thoughts about how being a reader influences writing, marrying aptitudes and interests to chart a path that makes sense for us and finding small moments of free time and using them to build worlds. Audrey knows also knows how to produce something fresh and meaningful, how to handle language and about exploring the world – whether by travelling around it, or starting the day with a warm cup of coffee.

I just keep moving forward and hoping that I can help people make positive changes in their lives because someone has to be hopeful and be able to be in that darkness with them and still have hope in that darkness with them and still have hope that things can get better.

Sadie Grasse is a teacher and host of her own podcast 'Go The Distance' on Mile HI Radio.

If I could rewind my life and do it again, I would put someone in my life who would encourage me to still do art and that kind of stuff on the side instead of just throwing it away.

“You invite [yourself] to have some time of just being – and that’s what we’re just not used to.”

Dr. Kate Dow joins me to share her knowledge about life with anxiety. She knows about anxiety not only because of her work as a counsellor and a psychologist but because she had her own experiences with severe anxiety after the birth of her children. She went on to become an advocate for other women and she reaches out to leaders and entrepreneurs who are experiencing overwhelm and want to prevent burn out. I loved this conversation so much. We touched on the importance of sleep, the healing power of creativity and self care, the role of technology plays in contributing to anxiety and many other important topics. It was a lovely conversation! As Kate says, “Anxiety keeps you in the place where you already are,” but the great news is, you don’t have to stay there.
Kate has a PHD in Counseling Psychology and she is a Certified EMDR practitioner and Kundalini Yoga Certified Instructor (and that’s just some of it). She is the author of the book Fear-Less: The Art of Using Anxiety to Your Advantage.
