1. THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH

Rapture – “caught up”

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 - For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. (NIV)

Pre-tribulation - Church Age, Rapture, Tribulation, Second Coming.

Mid-tribulation - Church Age, 3 ½ years of Tribulation, Rapture, Another 3 ½ years of Tribulation, and then the Second Coming.

Post-tribulation - Church Age, Tribulation, Rapture, and Second Coming.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath. (NIV)

1 Thessalonians 5:9 - For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)

Revelation 3:10 - Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth. (NIV)

Luke 12:40 - You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (NIV)

Mark 13:32–33 - But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. (NIV)

2. THE TRIBULATION

Matthew 24:21-22 - For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. (NIV)

3. THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

Matthew 24:30-31 - “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” (NIV)

4. THE COMING JUDGMENTS

A. The Great White Throne Judgment

Revelation 20:11-15 - Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. (NIV)

Matthew 25:46 - “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” (NIV)

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 - He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might (NIV)

2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (NIV)

B. The Judgment Seat of Christ

2 Corinthians 5:10 - “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due them for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (NIV)

1 Corinthians 3:8-9 - “The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”  (NIV)

Revelation 21:1–4 - Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (NIV)

The Church & Its Mission

1. According to God’s Word, what is the Church?

Ephesians 1:22-23 NIV - 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Ephesians 2:22 NIV- 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

2. What is the Mission of the Church?

a. We, as the church, represent Jesus on Earth

Ephesians 1:22-23 NIV - 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Colossians 3:12-14 NIV  12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord

forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 

b. We represent Jesus on earth as we GO and find lost people and introduce them to Jesus.

Matthew 28:19-20 NIV - 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Acts 1:8 NIV - 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

c. We are here to make and become disciples.

Matthew 28:19-20 NIV - 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Ephesians 4:11-16 NIV 11 So Christ himself  gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up  13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Are Water Baptism and Communion Really That Important?

1. WATER BAPTISM

Why is water baptism so important?

1. God’s Word highlights the importance of water baptism.

A. Scripture teaches us that Jesus was baptized.

Matthew 3:13-15 – 13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” 15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.[a]” So John agreed to baptize him. NLT

B. Scripture teaches us that it honors God.

Matthew 3:16-17 – 16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” NLT

C. Scripture teaches us that the early church preached and practiced water baptism.

Matthew 28:19-20 - 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” NLT

Acts 2:38 - Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. NLT

2. It’s a powerful picture of what happens when we surrender our life to Christ.

Romans 6:3-4 - Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. NIV

2. COMMUNION

Why is communion so important?

Matthew 26:26-29 - 26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” NIV

1. It reminds us of what Jesus did for us.

Luke 22:19 - And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” NIV

2. It helps us celebrate the forgiveness we have because of the cross.

Matthew 26:27-28 - 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. NIV

3. It gives us hope for the future.

Matthew 26:29 - 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” NIV

DOES GOD STILL HEAL?

1. WHAT IS THE ATONEMENT?

Leviticus 17:11 "For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life." (NIV)

1 John 2:2 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. (NIV)

3. HEALING

1 Peter 2:24 24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” (NIV)

Romans 5:12 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned (NIV)

4. THE CHARACTER AND NATURE OF GOD IS TO HEAL

Exodus 15:26 "I am the LORD who heals you.”

6 steps on how to have better conflict

1. Realize you can’t be right with God when you’re wrong with your brother

1 John 4:19-21 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not

love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.  21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. (NIV)
