  • This is how we fight our battles | Tommy McCaul - Audio
Exodus 17:8-13 While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek
attacked them. 9 Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of
Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my
hand.”10 So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek.
Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. 11 As long as Moses held
up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the
Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold
them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of
Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua
overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle. (NLT)

4 Top Reasons People Are Reluctant To Tithe

    1. Tithing is under the law

Romans 6:14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under
    grace. (NIV)

Romans 6:1–2 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2  By no
means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? (NIV)

Romans 2:13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who
obey the law who will be declared righteous. (NIV)

Romans 3:31   Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law. (NIV)

Romans 7:12   So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. (NIV)

Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false
    testimony, slander. (NIV)

    2. Jesus didn’t talk about tithing

2A. Jesus did talk about tithing

Matthew 23:23   “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your
spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice,
mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. (NIV)

Luke 11:42   “Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds
of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter
without leaving the former undone. (NIV)

Luke 18:12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ (NIV)

Matthew 6:19–21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy,
and where thieves break in and steal. 20  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and
vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21  For where your treasure is, there
your heart will be also. (NIV)

    3. I don’t trust the church

2 Corinthians 8:21   For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in
    the eyes of man. (NIV)

Malachi 3:10   Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in
this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so
much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. (NIV)

    4. I don’t trust God

Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in
this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so
