Every book of the Bible has a purpose. Indeed every word of every book is inspired. So one of the questions we want to ask is, what is the purpose of this book? The King James Version translates 1 Thessalonians 5:22 as “all appearance of evil.” Most other translations have “every form of evil” or the like. What does it mean that Christians should abstain from every appearance/form of evil? What is the context? What is the principle? This sermon shows that good and evil exist, that we must discern between them, but that not everything that may appear evil to people is a form of evil in God's eyes.
