In Leviticus 26, God spills out some pretty clear details on what it means to remain faithful to a covenant. God promises blessings and abundance if they choose to obey Him. If they do not choose to obey God, He also spills out some pretty clear consequences for that choice. God gives people choices. He doesn't force Himself on anyone. The Israelites were given a choice to follow God with all their heart of chase after false idols. God wants to dwell with us. He wants to be a part of our daily moments. He makes another promise to them knowing they will choose disobedience. He will bring them back despite their sins. He will give them life no matter how close to death they are. He does just that when He gave us Jesus. He gave everything so we could be close to God with no barriers. All we have to do is say "yes" and receive His amazingly generous gift. 

In Leviticus 24 & 25, we see the Trinity of God. Just like the oil is to never go out in the lamps that provide light in the Tabernacle, the Holy Spirit never leaves us the moment we accept Jesus as our Savior. Jesus is the bread - the bread of Life. He sustains us throughout life. God gave us His Son, Jesus gave us His life, and the Holy Spirit brings it into our hearts. The passion for God is ignited and never burns out. We have eternal light. Every seven years, the land and people of Israel were to rest - completely. They get to rest in God and trust that He will provide. The year of Jubilee is a complete reset that occurred every 50 years. Any debts owed are wiped clean and everyone gets to go home - free. Jesus brought our final year of Jubilee when He died for us on the cross. He canceled all our eternal spiritual debts. He freed us from being chained to sin and death once and for all - for all eternity. 

In Leviticus 22 & 23, the priests are given instruction regarding the importance of God's holiness and not messing with it. God's honor, reputation, and character are holy and will remain holy. The sacrifices brought before God must be perfect and the gifts must be valuable. They were blemished by their imperfection and needed a spotless sacrifice to represent their blemishes and give them purity in exchange. Jesus did this once and for all for us on the cross for all eternity. The festivals and feasts remind them of who they were, Who's providing for them, and who God is to them. These feasts create a holy time, root people in God's saving work, and renew their trust in God and their obedience to Him. Remembrance is the cure for blasphemy and sin. When we stop to remember all God has done and is doing in our lives, sin is the last thing that is able to tempt us. We want to stay in the arms of our almighty God forever and nothing waved in front of us can make us falter from His holy arms. 

In Leviticus 20, God lays out guidelines for not sacrificing your children to false gods and not caving to lustful, flesh-filled desires. He wants people to not be objectified and to be treated with value, worth, respect and of course - love. All people are made in God's image and deserve to know they are worthy, valued, seen and loved - especially by God. Jesus died on the cross for every one of us. In Leviticus 21, instructions are given for priests. God is holy and they are to represent God's holiness to the nation. God's honor, reputation, and character is holy and they represent that to the people around them. Jesus is our ultimate High Priest. He never had a blemish or sin that needed atonement. He is the spotless, perfect sacrifice Himself. God gave the very best Heaven had. We are made whole, perfect and acceptable to God through faith in Him. It's the only way. 

In Leviticus 19, the ten commandments about loving people are revisited on a deeper level. We see what God is like as well as His character. We see what we should be like if we are chasing after God's own heart. God is holy and pure. We see what God commands and who God is which fully comes together in Jesus.  Jesus perfectly kept God's commands and is the only one allowed in God's presence based solely on who He is. He perfectly kept the law and perfectly took its punishment on our behalf on the cross. Jesus makes us holy. Holiness is a lived condition. It's a condition of living like you truly love others and care about who they are. We are not perfect like Jesus. We make mistakes and will again and again. What we get wrong, Jesus makes right for us before God - every time. It's a promise we can count on. God keeps all His promises.  

In Leviticus 17 & 18, we are reminded of the importance of the life blood in every being. Life is found in the blood. Jesus' life was poured out when He died on the cross for us so we could live for all eternity instead of facing the death we all deserve. The trust that was once put in the sacrifices of Leviticus are now put in Jesus. Jesus' blood gives life to us who should have had to pay for our sinfulness. Outlines are further given for how to remain morally pure as they are about to enter a very pagan, sinful nation full of idolatry and lust. God wants to continue to dwell with His people and wants them to stay set apart and safe with Him for all eternity. 

In Leviticus 15, we are shown how the people were cleansed after grossness came out of their bodies. Our bodies are gross and our spirits can be worse. Regardless, God cares for us and heals us in and through our grossness in every area. This leads to chapter 16. The day of atonement. Once a year a mega sacrifice was given to atone for anything that any of the other sacrifices may not cover. One goat is sacrificed to purify the people before the Lord, the other is used to take their sins far away from them into the wilderness. Jesus became our final day of atonement. What He did once gave access to God for all who believe in Him for all eternity. The cross sits in the middle of all we do. Jesus became our willing scapegoat so we could be free from sin for all eternity. 

In Leviticus 14, we learn how the priests performed the cleansing and purification sacrifices for people after they were healed from a skin disease and how they handled purification of homes after a mold cleansing. Once someone is cleansed, they are set apart, healed, and purified and are free to live the rest of their lives for God. God sent us Jesus to cleanse us and wants everything we come in contact with - our whole houses and environments - to be liberated, cleansed, and free from the spread of sin.  We too can be so full of His grace that it overflows into the environments around us. We are free from sin for all eternity and get to share that glory with everyone around us. 

In Leviticus 13, Aaron and his sons get to be dermatologists! They have detailed instructions on how to look at skin and determine if it's an infection or a mere rash. If it's a real infection, they are determined to be ceremonially unclean and if it's a mere rash, they quarantine for seven days and then are determined to be ceremonially clean again. This chapter covers everything from leprosy to balding. Whoa - watch out for balding y'all! Just kidding - don't worry - if they only had balding to deal with, they were still ceremonially clean. The thing with sin that is similar to this skin issue chapter, is that sin is always more than a skin deep issue. Sin spreads, destroys, and eventually kills you if you don't choose Jesus. We need to let Jesus examine us, diagnose us, treat us, and give us the best eternal cure of all - life for all eternity - clean and pure with Him forever. 

In Leviticus 11 & 12, we enter the chapters on purity and how the people God chose and set apart can remain ceremonial clean so God can continue to dwell among them. They are about to enter the land of Canaan which is a very sinful, idol worshiping nation with pagan rituals. God intends to do everything possible to keep His people safe and set apart as His. They are given lists of animals that they should and should not eat or touch so they may remain pure. Israel's diet was a physical representation of their distinction as God's people. When a child is born, the woman and child are to be set apart and left alone for a set time. Again, to keep them safe and give them time apart for rest and cleansing. When Jesus died on the cross for us, He purified us completely from the inside out. These laws no longer apply because we are purified by the blood of Jesus for all eternity.
