Performances of Dancers
For a dancer, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of stepping onstage to perform. Full of anticipation, a dancer will look out over the awaiting audience as the first few notes of music begin to fill the air. Music that the dancers have come to know is like the back of their hands thanks to hours of practices. The lights come up. The dancers assume their first positions, and then they dazzle the crowd. Though performing can be like magical, rewarding, and fulfilling, it, indeed, takes great amounts of time and preparation for dancers to feel confident enough to enjoy the experiences of performances. According to the information, there are five strategies to implement well on stage as follows:
1. Maintaining a regular rehearsal schedule
2. Encouraging rest and nutrition
3. Combating stage fright
4. Creating a pre-performance checklist
5. Dancing happily
First of all, in order to perform successfully, dancers must know that they have to spend a lot of time for many rehearsals. This helps dancers to stay motivated, gain confidence, and learn how to work together as a team. Thus, rehearsals become a very important part of the performances. For effective rehearsals, dancers should stick to a regular schedule, such as setting the timetable, starting on time, and following the directions of dances. Normally, dancers need to warm up and cool down their bodies before and after class. Except for routine practices, the dancers usually spend extra time exercising more in terms of performances. In this sense, it is truly efficient to emphasize the power of repetition because repeatedly working through small mistakes will lead to a more polished final performance. Rehearsing is, really, of the utmost importance before a big performance. However, we have to notice one thing, i.e., there’s no need to overdo it, especially, in the last few days or hours before the dancers take to the stage. We should be carefully mindful of dancers that too much rehearsing might lead to burnout, self-doubt, and even physical injury.
Secondly, for dancers, they should be encouraged to take a rest and paid attention to good nutrition. Performing is physically demanding. Taking care of their bodies has to be a priority at all times, specifically if they want to do their best on stage. In general, dancers ought to eat foods containing protein and carbohydrates which provide them with the energy in dancing. Moreover, in addition to fueling their bodies with nutritious foods, the dancers also need to get great sleep. In other words, they, by all means, would strive to make healthy sleep habits in the highest place. Thirdly, for the performances, stage fright might be a big roadblock for dancers. Very often, we invite experienced dancers to share their stories about overcoming stage fright in class. Sometimes, hearing from peers about stage fright experiences does help new dancers know that they’re not alone to be anxious about dancing on stage. Even the best, most well-known dancers have messed up on stage every once in a while. Therefore, it’s common to talk about stage fright. After all, dancers should prepare for everything, and get ready for the situations before performances. The urgent thing for them to do, right now, is that they could find the best ways to overcome stage fright as much as possible.
Fourthly, the dancers must create a pre-performance checklist of tasks they’re responsible for completing before the performances. This includes costumes, accessories, makeup, and dance shoes. Putting all the things in one place ahead of time will ensure that no dancers are missing hair bows or shoes on the day of the performance. That is, in any situations, dancers need to allow ample time for them to arrive at the performance venue earlier and get dressed. They should calm down and take it easy to check whether it is perfectly available for everything or not. At last, we, undoubtedly, welcome happy dancers. Genuinely, performances are important because they let dancers show off what they’ve learned in their classes. Performances, actually, open up new and exciting doors of opportunities for the dancers in the world of dance. However, one single experience on stage won’t define someone’s entire dancing career. That’s the reason why it’s very imperative for the dancers to stay positive, and focus on enjoying the experiences of performances. We surely want our dancers to come out of every performance feeling excited to return to class and the stage. As a dancer, we do hope that he/she has a wonderful time doing what he/she loves under the bright stage lights.
Last but not least, when we have accomplished something that took a lot of effort and energy, it is a priceless feeling. Having reached this point, we, truly, strengthen our self-esteem, sense of achievement, and sense of accomplishment. For this moment, we think that we have accomplished something. It, certainly, gives us a boost of confidence that helps us to keep going. Thus, we are more likely to take risks and push ourselves harder when we have past positive experiences to draw from. Moreover, a sense of achievement can also be a great source of satisfaction, making us proud of our work and encouraging us even to do more. Because the feeling of achievement is such a strong motivator, it, in fact, helps us bring out the best in our careers and lives. For most dancers, performing, perhaps, is nerve-wracking, but it can also be incredibly empowering. Successfully executing performances in front of the audience, indeed, boosts the dancers’ self-esteem and confidence. These feelings could extend beyond the stage, positively impacting other areas of their lives. In other words, standing on stage and showcasing their hard work can make the dancers feel, deeply, proud of their achievements. No wonder most dancers enjoy the applause and performances. Dance is a form of emotional expressions. During performances, dancers might display their joy, sadness, or excitement in movements, allowing them to connect with the audience. At the same time, the applause and recognition from the audience do bring the dancers a sense of achievement that is exceptionally motivating. Such positive reinforcements, unquestionably, encourage the dancers to pursue their passion for dance and strive for excellence. Simply put, performances are the ways of presentation for the dancers to captivate the audience’s attention when they are on stage. It’s about commanding attention and showing confidence and ease. What’s more, it is, undeniably, the greatest joy for the dancers to demonstrate their expertise.
