Sharareh Drury is a person you should be expecting to make regular house calls on The Brandon Peters Show. I’ve long appreciated and admired her work and terrific perspective on the world of film, television and media in general. When planning this podcast out in its early stages, she’s someone who I intended to be a frequent flyer on the program.

Sharareh has a terrific story in her journey to where she is now at The Hollywood Reporter. It begins with winning an Emmy in high school and continuing to be a standout throughout her collegiate and professional career. And here, I’m happy to share it with you in audio form.

The film she picked for the episode is a total gem in 2007’s Persepolis. It’s the first animated and first non-English speaking film to be presented on the show. I saw it back in 2007, but viewing it here I could much more appreciate and be taken in by it in my late 30s than I was back in my 20s. It is so rich and there’s a lot of material to sink your teeth into.

And most importantly, the movie plus guest combo provides an excellent learning space and informative discussion about Iranian history and culture. Sharareh’s heritage and relation to the story helps improve and elevate an already good movie + conversation to a level I tend to dream that the show can achieve. I hope you enjoy and soak in that factor as well.
