    • How to Recover from a Personal Brand(Celebrity) Blunder

How to Recover from a Personal, Celebrity Brand Fall.

“For a just man falleth seven times and riseth up again” Proverbs 24:16-18

Over the years we have seen many personal brands/celebrities rise and fall over a blunder, misconduct, and other vices mostly via social media platforms. The first most important thing is to guard your online brand presence.

You must come to terms with this; know and understand that every piece of content you post online about you, your product or services can make or mar your brand. Therefore, if you don’t take charge of your brand presence, someone else would, and guess what… it will be messed up!

Here is what you should do to secure your brand.

      1. Don’t immediately jump into any PR gimmicks, either on social media, etc. to address the issue. Gather your facts right, because anything you say or refuse to say can go against you.

      2. If you believe it should be resolved legally, let your lawyers handle that and keep it out of the media where possible.

      3. If truly you messed up; sincerely acknowledge that you messed up and ask for forgiveness. (Don’t fake it)

      4. If you genuinely regret and apologized, you can then send out messages/ audio/video/ etc. to your fans or followers to assure them of your trust. You must be real.

      5. Don’t hire bloggers, social media folks nor your celebrity friends to spread counter messages about you during the crisis.

      6. Sometimes the best way is to quietly stay away from the mass discussion and talks about the issue at hand and quietly heal and recover. “Silence is golden”

      7. If you can’t honestly share your errors don’t accept invitations to be on media ( radio, TV, etc) to talk about the issue. People can read between the lines and would know if you are being honest.

      Let your conscience lead you!

“Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up” – Chinese Proverb

                                        • What is your best productivity tip/phrase/advice?The best productivity tip I could ever give someone is always have a positive attitude to everything. No matter which situation you find yourself, always have a positive attitude. If you are working for someone, think of it as you own that company and act the way you would as if it was yours, by doing so, you put all your energy into what you do. This does not only help build the company, but also enhances your skills and prepares you for your own ventures in life. I have always treated every job i had had as my own and I always try as much as I can to be happy. Listen with an antelope ears, and be slow in speaking. Think of 5x faster before you say anything and also be true to yourself.
                                        •

                                          • What has been your best tool or app to work productively in your job? It’s funny, though I am a Tech junkie, I don’t actually have any special tool, but if I do, its feedly, Gmail for Android to check my emails, Twitter to check what’s trending in my area of interest, LinkedIn to check my connection and make new connections, Instagram to ease of the stress, Evernote to take notes, XE currency converter to keep track of the cedi and the dollar, WhatsApp to share important links and news among my peers.
                                          • But most of all, the best productivity tip I can give you is a peace state of mind. I mostly feel productive when I visit a particular coffee shop around OSU. The place is peaceful for my mind which makes me productive. Find a peaceful state of mind and you will be productive. Try changing where you work, move to a different desk or work from a remote location if your work permits you.

                                                  • My best productivity tip is to do one thing at a time. Contrary to popular notion, I don’t believe in multi-tasking. It gets you to start too many things, but may not complete them. Thus, do one thing at a time to completion, before jumping on to the next.
                                                  • My best productivity app is WhatsApp. While it may not be a “productivity” app in the real sense of the word, it has helped me to check up on my team members who are scattered all around the country. It helps me know what’s going on with them, etc. We have a page there where we have our meetings and all that.

                                                    • Passion, Commitment, Discipline – passion makes me enjoy doing which leads to results, commitment ensures continuity, discipline makes me stay on track.

“..Any brand that refuses to grow (innovate) dies slowly..”

In this new phase of digital economy, brands (personal/product/corporate/) that seeks to thrive and make great lasting impacts with their products and services must pay attention to these two critical survival tips, else they will barely survive and face the imminent danger of extinction:

You can listen and Subscribe via iTunes or Stitcher Radio

                                                                        Tip 1

Innovate: What worked yesterday may not work today; and what is working today may not work tomorrow. This call for constant change and upgrades; re-evaluation of tools and processes to meet the demands and drives of the new economy. If your brand is still celebrating and relying on its past successes and attributes in this digital age, then the danger of extinction is high.

New Technologies are flying in so fast that unless a brand learns to leverage the use of these tools to its advantage it will not survive the test of time.

A typical example of a brand using technology and innovation is Coca-Cola; no wonder it’s one of the world’s leading brands. They adopted the use of technology to enable the cover of its plastic bottled Coke to be used as credit for making calls in Asia [watch the attached video below]. This way, people who buy the bottled coke keep the cover so as to use any time to make distant calls to family and friends. This is a win-win situation; they are providing value to their customers and solving a problem. This alone will bring lots of businesses to the Coca-Cola Company, make their customers happy, and drive brand loyalty.

                                                                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlA9tXYxD8g

The question for you today is; what are you and your brand doing to stay on top of the game? Any brand that refuses to grow (innovate) dies slowly.

                                                                        Tip 2

Plug-in: It’s about time you think of collaboration rather than competition. Don’t try to reinvent the wheels rather invent add-ons. For brands and especially smaller brands to stay afloat and not be drowned by massive competition from the big brands, they have to think about complementing an existing model/niche with their products or services.

This is the thinking line; instead of creating a new Facebook-like social media to compete with Facebook, why not think of creating an app that can easily be integrated with Facebook, taking advantage of its massive reach.

A typical example is the gaming app company, Zynga, which created the game Farmville for Facebook; they are making millions of dollars with their app. The question is if they had created their own platform will they have made it that way? Possibly No!

This is it; what can your brand add to an existing model, consider what you can bring to the table, what brands can you possibly collaborate with to birth a bigger or more impactful brand?

How can a brand thrive without innovation and collaborative works? Think creative!!!

“Don’t seek to be the loudest voice in the room but rather a clear distinctive voice” ~ Bernard Kelvin Clive

                                                                          1. People do business(employ, recommend, refer, deal) with those they: Know, Love, & Trust… If people don’t know you for something specific they may not do business with you. If you are not a kind, caring, admirable person with pleasing personality, people may never deal with you. Being likeable is a great asset. If you cannot be trusted in business, you have no business, your credibility is key to survival. “In this age, trust is the new currency for riches”. Can you be trusted?

                                                                          2. As the world becomes noisier with each passing day and content fatigue with overloaded information setting in, if you don’t position yourself as a brand and build strong reputation for yourself, you will be drowned in the noise. Haven’t you noticed how people are cramming the social media platforms for attention(tags, likes, shares, retweets, blogs, pictures, etc) daily? Doing all they can for attention. If you consciously build your brand steadily overtime, you will become a go-to-person amidst the noise. Let your voice be heard. “Don’t seek to be the loudest voice in the room but rather a clear distinctive voice” ~ Bernard Kelvin Clive

They are treated less and receive less of value. Your uniqueness in little areas matters. It’s your difference that the world is seeking after not your similarities. The world is looking for experts and not generalists.
