Today's topic - We often give ourselves and our youth too long of a break to reinstitute the structure and routine that is needed to remain well. We feel that we "deserve" a break. However, too long of a period away from routine, results in a new "routine" that is inconsistent, unhealthy, and unproductive. Using our knowledge of the brain, we can hack our systems positively by implementing a new schedule that includes routines that serve us physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

Today's Topic: Please take some time this week to think about the ratio of positive to negative interactions that you have with your adolescent. Research has shown that having a ratio of FIVE or more positive interactions for every ONE negative interaction keeps couples together and makes love last. I believe we can use this research and this awareness to change our relationships with our youth for the better.

Today's Topic: There is a common myth that young people don't want to talk to their parents and other adults. Adolescents often avoid speaking with us because of how "conversations" go. They will report that it is usually more of a lecture than it is a conversation. When parents pursue connection with their children through curiosity and active listening, they are often surprised how much their child will open up. I will talk about the science of habit and how it can be used to create more great conversations with the adolescents in your life.
