Join Rev. Trudy and Rev. Hannah as they wrap up the 4-episode exploration of Our Money Story. In this episode of Perspectives Pastors Podcast, they’re using the dramatic story of Jacob and Esau from Genesis 33 to bring forth the concept of restoration of our money story.
The two pastors look at how our relationships with our loved ones affect our money story and how our money story can be brought into reconciliation and restoration of damaged relationships. They ask why gifts come into play with Jacob and Esau’s story. And they about how it compares to God’s welcoming of us when we seek forgiveness.
It’s a lot to consider! We invite you to move deeper with this topic by considering the following questions with your friends and family:

In this episode of Perspectives Pastors Podcast, Rev. Trudy and Rev. Brittany continue talking about Our Money Story – examining how to bring God into our money habits and attitudes, that we may live more fully and with less worry.
The two clergy women are focusing on Matthew 19:16-22, when Jesus observes how people give money in the temple – highlighting the great sacrifice given by a poor widow who gave everything she had, which was proportionately so much more than anyone else present.
We often interpret this Scripture through a single lens. But Rev. Trudy and Rev. Brittnay question if Jesus was trying to bring more to light, reimagining our entire attitudes around:

In this episode of Perspectives Pastors Podcast, Rev. Brittany and Rev. Hannah continue the discussion about Our Money Story – this time in relation to the concept of “release.”
They start with Scripture – Matthew 19:16-22 – the story of the young affluent man who approaches Jesus to learn what he must do to gain eternal life but ultimately walks away sad because he’s not willing to release his possessions. It’s an inward approach, looking at personal salvation, instead of the outward relationship with God and others.
The concept of release is one that’s hard for us today – both with our personal possessions as well as the resources and approach of our churches.
Rev. Brittany and Hannah discuss all this, as well as the error that comes with prescriptive faith, the blessings that can come about when we shift to a communal mindset, and the need to be inconvenienced to grow our faith.

Money can break relationships. But we’re often unaware of where our money story comes from. And don’t take the time to look at it objectively to uncover areas where we could be healthier and more faithful with how we look at money.
They start by looking back at Exodus to remember how God can show up and provide – often at an unexpected time or unexpected way.

Join Rev. Trudy and Rev. Brittany as they wrap up the three-part series about travel and the Sankofa Pilgrimage, relating how we can be blessed and bless others as we move through the world.
In this episode, the two pastors look at the story of Hagar, Sarai, and Abram in Genesis 16, uncovering the beauty of voices being heard when they’ve been mistreated and in pain. And they tie that back to the purpose of FUMCSD’s Sankofa Pilgrimage – recovering the voices of those we haven’t been listening to about the harsh treatment they’ve experienced in the United States.
Rev. Trudy and Rev. Brittany discuss the second half of the 2024 Sankofa Pilgrimage (be sure to listen to Episodes 31 & 32 for the full back story!). Listen in as they reflect upon the sites they visited and the ways that the pilgrims were transformed. Locations discussed in this episode include:
They also include the participating pilgrims’ final thoughts – what they learned through the travels and how they’re bringing it back to their communities to bless others.
