One of Perth's largest local councils is considering a redevelopment of the rear lane ways in many of its streets.
Some Town of Bassendean lane ways are said to be dilapidated and in need of attention but the council thinks they are ideal for redevelopment into community spaces.
Bassendean Mayor Kath Hamilton told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings the council was eying in excess of 25 laneways, with residents keen to have the opportunity to buy the land and include it in their backyard.
"There's a variety of treatments proposed for these laneways ... these older laneways are a hangover from the last century, where many of them were by-products of earlier subdivisions at the beginning of the century... there's quite a complicated process involved with laneways and right of ways and how to close them."
