West Aussie Brooklyn Metropolis is a star on the rise. Taking out this year’s title of Miss West Coast and named one of five WA State finalists, the 21-year-old is headed to Melbourne hoping to earn top place in Miss Universe Australia 2023.

Operation Hurricane

Paul Grace has a BA (Hons) in English from Curtin University and almost 20 years of experience as a bookseller and manager in general, technical and educational bookshops in Perth, Western Australia. Operation Hurricane: The story of Britain's first atomic test and the legacy that remains is his first book. Grace's reason for writing the book is personal: his late grandfather, Flight Lieutenant Ron Grace, was a Dakota pilot who flew security patrols around the islands before the test and 'coastal monitoring sorties' (looking for fallout on the mainland) afterwards. When Grace began researching his grandfather's role, he found that there were no full-length histories of Operation Hurricane written from an Australian perspective, while British accounts downplayed the dangers of radiation and excluded Australian participants. Eventually, it became clear that if he wanted to read an Australian book about Operation Hurricane, he would have to write it himself.

25-year-old Melbourne endurance athlete Sean Bell is taking on a record-breaking run around Australia in March next year. Not only is Sean planning on being the fastest person to run around the country, he aims to raise $1.4 million for Make-A-Wish® Australia to represent the 14,000km that he will cover on foot.

Starting and finishing at Melbourne’s iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Sean will run 80.5km a day for 174 days (about 5 and a half months) to break the current world record of 13,791km in 175 days previously set by fellow athlete and friend David

Alley.

Sean’s epic journey will take him to the far reaches of the nation, including Tasmania, Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville, Darwin, Broome, Perth and Adelaide before returning to Melbourne in late August.
