Out of the mouth of babes!
"Can we read it again RIGHT NOW?!?!" asked my four year old emerging reader, upon finishing this book!
It was an instant hit!
Synopsis: Pete is on an adventure to see many ocean creatures, but especially a seahorse, after the captain whetted his appetite by telling him about it. As he traverses the wide ocean world, he discovers many interesting fish and places but never seems to put two-and-two together that there is a seahorse following and tickling him the whole journey through! Of course at the end, it all comes together!
The children giggled, and their mother loved that they were learning about all kinds of aquatic animals as we went along!
If you enjoy this, another hearty recommendation would be the "hilarious" bookMay I Please Have a Cookie? (Scholastic Readers, Level 1)and if you were looking to reinforce the educational aspect of Pete the Cat Scuba-Cat, check out this beautiful book:Over in the Ocean: In a Coral Reef.
A great Pete Storey but the text was more complex than I had hoped
I am currently working with my 3YO who is learning to read, and loves Pete the Cat, so this book seemed like an ideal choice for us. While he did love the story I would not say that this is suitable for emergent readers. There are some difficult/complex words which can be off putting for a child who is still learning and working on word identification.
We bought this in Kindle book format which has the added advantage that you can increase the text see by double tapping on the text to highlight it. This is a really good idea, but we could not take advantage of it because when you use it on the iPad my son can't follow the words with his fingers - this is just the price that you pay for a book on the iPad
So in summary - a nice story, that is probably a little complex for emergent readers and possibly not the best choice for an iPad
It was fun reading it with her
My 6 year old granddaughter loves Pete the Cat. She's a beginning reader and Kindergartener, and she can manage most of the book without help. It was fun reading it with her.
... doing Pete the Cat themes and he fell in love with cats
My 4 year old's pre-k was doing Pete the Cat themes and he fell in love with cats. I bought this and a set of more of them and he was super pleased. the art is adorable and colorful and the cat characters always look calm and gentle. The story keeps his interest.
A very nice book for little ones.
Pete the Cat is a great series to spark your kid's imagination. A cat going scuba diving...now that's just wonderful. This book is appropriate for little ones perhaps in kindergarten or even first grade. My son loves it. The small book size is also ideal for him.
