You are welcome to listen in as I "explain things scientific". I have had great fun with lasers, robots and absorbing Quantum Physics. Now as a classroom teacher, laid low by heart surgery its time t... more

December 21, 2018Zombie Myths - Chapter 1A sobering account of the British occupation of Australia. I think the line that Aborigines were British Subjects was the operating believe and has obvious flaws. I think this work exposes some of the very weak thinking many people don't question, and in the process makes some sound points. I think the closing remarks that this a defeat and we as a nation have a special expertise in working through defeats really charts the way forward in what we could do next. International listeners will hear content that rarely is given the light of day and thus will have access to a rare insight about Australia. December 21, 2018Zombie Myths - IntroductionI read and comment from an incredibly well written book. You may be interested in history in general and how any country or group of people winds up adding fabrications to there own memory of themselves. I have certainly noted this in passing in every country I have lived in, but that seemed to be part of the charm and energy of the place. I really want to learn about Zombies because I am holed up in a mountain retreat with a full scale zombie-apocalypse. The software I am creating is some kind of improvised weapon that seems to slow them down for a bit, but then alerts them where to attack. This book is like desperately finding the textbook on zombies as the movie reaches it climax. I hope you in podcast-land have a stomach for all of this, if not listen to something else. December 20, 2018New Scientist 15 Dec_Cover StoryWhite Holes - just like black holes but the matter bounces out of it. It was actually agonizing to read explanations that confidently mis-explain Quantum Mechanics. I would be appalled if a first year University student generated an argument that the classical electron exists in every aspect only that quantum mechanics quantizes the energy. Tunneling is so misunderstood, then again it very rarely properly explained. I say rarely because I have not yet found one possible explanation but I don't have exhaustive knowledge of every explanation. There could be one or two in the total population, To be honest, I think this article is functionally negligent. It reinforces damaging ideas. It does have a shred of hope as it does tell us about an observation in want of a theory. The ultrashort FRB fast radio bursts has to come from an object that is no more than a few thousand kilometers across, otherwise it would not be as short as it is. It is going to be totally weird, and in this case bring out all the strangest theories out there. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
December 20, 2018Practical ProjectsPractically what would it take to make a scale local stellar neighborhood? Or convert the side of a hill to a scale atmosphere taking people to outer-space? The answer is not much in theory but on the ground it is very tough assignment. Here we start practical and then look a bit at the strategy. In my mind I pitch the concepts to Mark Greenhill the mayor of the Blue Mountains, in reality I will do far more work first. The nuts and bolts of my Shed experiment ... Einstein's handle on the Universe... is taking shape. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
December 19, 2018Podomation Update - 32Some simple bug fixes are described. The elimination of the space in front of the podcast name by simply scan and remove is one fix. The mysterious failure for multi-file podcast was fixed by connecting the full file list rather than the selected file list from the processing engines. This would work for selection of files from the top of the file list. Looking at the quiz automation I have used for the first time web sourced pronunciation and also trialed a using the dicta-phone rather than computer linked microphone. Strategically I am looking at the synthetic quiz as an education system rather than just software functionality. This is taking input from experts and professional presenters and positioning the tool in a broadcast environment. December 19, 2018Reflections on teaching lists and scalesThis is a podcast while driving, here me think aloud then think of placing educational sequences on a walking path and along a drive. Innovation maybe? Rather it shows me that censure of ideas, even crazy ones, leads to a silent dead culture. December 19, 2018Islam QuizThis is an experimental quiz to trial different recording techniques and the use of internet for pronunciation. I honestly think you are on much stronger ground if you have a working knowledge of any area, and that this assists in understanding what people are trying to say. Remembering pronunciation and articulation is a real strain from a rehab perspective. I expect to get expert feed back on this and it will be a real challenge to do that next round of programming to claw back the audio files and improve things. It turns out that Camstasia and NCH Switch is essential software to capture pronunciation from the internet. December 17, 2018New Scientist 8 Dec_4All on getting the global warming below 1.5 C. I am all for it but the criticism I have is that people are looking to avoid the issue and they will drive right through poor science. I really feel the graphics are such hard work to understand and does not follow conventions that you actually train your student to use. Why would you not use pie charts and why not in polar form like Florence Nightingale? I think there is a bigger question of doing lots of poor quality work and just shipping it out there. I love the concept of having carbon free steel, it really works for me. My suggestion of detaining Australians that travel to the US and Europe to stop them flying everywhere as often would have a bigger impact rather than discouraging natives to fly around their own countries. December 17, 2018Solar BluesOn reflection I am witness to one of history's true epics of stupidity: Explaining, no teaching, a classical electron fiction that has an introduction chapter and an epilogue but no mechanism. I imagine that the Mafia has an ethicist, but he or she would be incredibly nuanced in any pronouncement and suitably ambiguous. I can imagine this because you require that same skill set as a Quantum Physicist supporting a system mired in the misery of Classical absurdity. It truly an new class of drama I shall call the absurdist tragedy. This being said I have a go. Our band diagrams go 3D. Action happens on the main stage of the N-type silicon and moves away from the figurative stair well of the depletion zone. I am a crazy or something else concluding that the audience for this should just read solid state for days, weeks, years until they get it. At any rate after this I contemplate second and third generation solar cell deployment that defies economics as we know it. It is not much harm really. Thinking outside the square just leads to new perspectives and supports the understand of thinking behind the way things are done now.
