We're almost a week after the federal budget, and as the rubber hits the road, it's a big week for economic news.

There'll be key updates on wages growth and employment over the next few days which could tell us more about inflation and whether the Reserve Bank has an appetite for another interest rate rise.

Just how far would the Reserve Bank go with interest rate rises in its crusade to tame surging inflation? One scenario modelled by the RBA is pushing that cash rate as high as 4.8 percent to get inflation back below three percent. The outcome would almost certainly be a deep recession but economists think the extreme scenario is unlikely.
