After months of pressure, the chief executive of Nine Entertainment Mike Sneesby has announced he's leaving the media giant. Mr Sneesby's departure comes after major cultural issues at Nine including allegations of sexual harrassment by former staff and the controversial exit of Nine's chairman, the former federal Treasurer Peter Costello.

A long-awaited interest rate cut in the United States looks almost certain after more good news on the pace inflation overnight.

So could that add to the pressure for rate cuts here in Australia ?

The advice is - don't get your hopes up too much.

The global oil price falls another 3 percent to under US$70 a barrel amid fears about a US recession, China slowdown and as OPEC cuts its demand outlook.

Also, the Irish government has been ordered to recovered 13 billion Euros (A$21 billion) from Apple as a sweetheart tax deal unravels.

The European Court of Justice has ruled Apple received unfair tax treatment back in 2016 that artificially reduced the tech giant's tax burden to as low as 0.005% in 2014.

The collapse in traditional mail deliveries is continuing with Australia Post reporting volumes in its letters business dropping to an all time low.

Australia Post chief executive Paul Graham says letter volumes are back at levels last seen in the 1950s.

The rapid decline in "snail mail" drove a full year loss of $88.5 million before tax for Australia Post though this is an improvement on a $200 million loss a year ago.

Australian business leaders are becoming increasingly frustrated with attacks from all side of politics where companies that make a profit are often accused of price gouging consumers.

The anger tipped over the edge when Matt Comyn - the normally compased chief executive of the Commonwealth Bank - hit back against what he called "insidious" and "populist" policies, in particular attacks from The Greens.

Qantas chief executive Vanessa Hudson is confident that the airline's reputation is slowly recovering after damaging turbulence under her predecessor Alan Joyce. Signs of moderating inflation in July can most likely be put down to the temporary impact of federal and state energy rebates. The Reserve Bank is likely to "look through" the slowing to 3.5 percent in July (from 3.8 percent) and will focus on the quarterly CPI update due on October 30.

Woolworths chief executive Brad Banducci has pushed back on political heat and ongoing claims that the supermarket giant puts profits ahead of the interests of customers and suppliers. Mr Banducci has used his final appearance as Woolies boss to acknowledge the higher cost of living while posting a 93 percent fall in full year profit to $108 million.

BHP has warned that China's demand for Australian iron ore has probably plateaued as the world's second biggest economy continues to slow.

The mining giant's chief executive Mike Henry says the boom days for iron ore exports are probably over. But he's now feeding another boom with the world's appetite for copper seemingly insatiable.

Coles chief executive Leah Weckert has played down a $1.1 billion full year profit as the supermarket giant balances returns to shareholders with customers hurting from the high cost of living. In response to political and consumer heat over alleged price gouging, Ms Weckert says the Coles profit has remained modest despite a painful period of high inflation.
