For a long time, I spoke about Petite Programming as though it wasn’t quite a real business yet, even after clients trusted me, money changed hands and completed websites were sitting publicly online with my name attached.
In this more personal episode, I’m talking about what happens when your business grows, but the way you speak about it remains stuck in its earliest days.
I explore:
- Why we often soften our achievements before anyone questions them.
- The difference between arrogance and accurately describing what you’ve built.
- How calling your business “just a side project” can influence the way you treat it.
- Why my confidence came from evidence rather than empty affirmations.
- Recognising when isolated wins have become a repeatable pattern.
- Allowing your language and decisions to catch up with the business you have now.
You don’t need to exaggerate your success or pretend you’ve reached an imaginary finish line. But you are allowed to stop making your work sound smaller than it really is.
Listen and ask yourself: what have you built that you’re still making sound small?

AI is making it easier than ever for small businesses to create captions, emails, website copy and marketing content, but when everyone uses the same tools, prompts and phrases, businesses can quickly begin to sound exactly the same.
In this episode of Petite Programming: The Pod, Steph explores the difference between using AI to clarify your ideas and allowing it to manufacture your voice.
You’ll learn:
* Why polished, professional content can still be completely forgettable.
* How vague prompts create generic results.
* Why AI-assisted work can improve individually while becoming more similar collectively.
* How common business clichés are flattening the voices of women in business.
* What only you can add to your content: your opinions, experience, humour, boundaries and professional judgment.
* How to recognise when your voice has disappeared from your writing.
* A practical process for improving generic AI-generated content.
* What business and client information should never be casually entered into a public AI tool.
AI can help you communicate more efficiently, but it shouldn’t decide who you are to the people you want to reach.
Listen now and discover how to use AI without allowing your business to become indistinguishable from everybody else’s.

Getting a business online used to be the hard part. Now almost everyone's done it, which means being found isn't the advantage it used to be. So what actually makes someone choose you over the business next to you in the search results?
In this episode, Stephanie breaks down the psychology of what happens after someone discovers your business online: the quiet, unsupervised research phase where 80–90% of buyers make up their mind before they ever contact you. You'll learn why Google's own research shows people judge a website in around 50 milliseconds, why the Stanford Web Credibility Project found 75% of people judge a business's credibility by its design alone, and why reviews work the way they do (hint: it's about risk, not popularity).
Most importantly, you'll hear the idea at the centre of this episode: people don't buy the best, they buy the business that feels safest. And once you understand that, you'll never look at your own website the same way again.
What we cover:
Why visibility and trust are two completely different jobs
The 50-millisecond rule and why first impressions on your website matter more than you think
What the Stanford Web Credibility Project and BrightLocal's research reveal about how people actually decide
A real example of a business that ranks #1 on Google, and still loses the customer
The small, unglamorous details that quietly build (or break) trust
Why Petite Programming builds websites with hand-written code instead of page builders, and why that matters for long-term business stability
If you've ever wondered why your website gets traffic but not enquiries, this episode is for you.

If you've been feeling like growing a business online is harder than it used to be... you're not imagining it.
The truth is, the internet has changed. Not overnight, but through a series of quiet shifts that have completely changed how people discover, research, trust and buy from businesses online.
In this episode, I'm unpacking the biggest changes I think every small business owner needs to understand, including:
This isn't about fear or telling you to work harder.
It's about understanding the environment you're operating in, so you can make smarter decisions and build a business that's ready for where the internet is heading not where it's been.
🎧 If you've ever found yourself wondering, "Why does this all feel so much harder now?" this episode is for you.

A few years ago, “just get something online” was probably decent advice.
Today? I’m not so sure.
In this episode, I’m unpacking why a rushed, low-strategy website can actually work against your business, and why having a website isn’t the same as having one that actually helps you grow.
This isn’t a DIY hate episode (promise 😅). DIY absolutely has its place, especially when you’re starting out. But there’s a big difference between getting something live… and building something that builds trust, gets found, performs properly, and actually supports your business behind the scenes.
I’m talking about:
• why buyer expectations have changed
• how websites quietly lose leads without you realising
• why social media isn’t the safety net many businesses think it is
• how AI and changing search behaviour are shifting the digital landscape
• and why a professional website is about so much more than just how it looks
🎧 If you’ve ever thought “my website is fine…” but haven’t really questioned whether it’s actually helping your business, this episode is worth a listen.

Starting a business right now feels different.
Costs are rising, people are more selective with their money, and the way businesses grow online is constantly changing. It’s no longer just about having a good idea; it’s about making the right decisions from the beginning.
In this episode, I’m walking through the questions I’d be asking if I were starting a business in 2026. Not a checklist, not a step-by-step, but the kind of questions that help you build something that actually works in today’s environment.
We’ll talk about:
• How current economic shifts are impacting small businesses
• Why relying on social media alone is riskier than ever
• How people are really choosing who to buy from now
• and what actually matters if you want your business to feel stable, not stressful
🎧 If you’re starting, rebuilding, or even just second-guessing your next move, this episode will help you think differently.

Small business websites are quietly becoming more than just marketing tools, and a lot of business owners don’t realise what that means until it’s too late.
In this episode, I’m breaking down a growing shift around website accessibility, what’s happening overseas, and what Australian small business owners should understand under the Disability Discrimination Act. We’ll talk about why DIY websites and quick-fix accessibility widgets can leave hidden risks behind, and why website structure matters more than ever.
If you’ve been treating your website as something you’ll “sort out later,” this episode will help you understand what’s changing, and why building it properly from the start can save you a lot of stress down the track.
🎧 This isn’t about fear. It’s about making smarter decisions for the long term.
