I first saw Tattoo Artist Megan Massacre’s awesome work when she starred on N.Y. Ink and was awed by her talents. Her super cool NYC store GRIT N GLORY has incredible clothing, accessories and more for rockers and her big heart equals her huge talent.

Megan developed a “Tats For Tails” event, in conjunction with the NYC ASPCA, at her Grit and Glory tattoo studio at 186 Orchard Street in NYC. “Tats For Tails” gives tattoo lovers the unique opportunity to get a rare appointment with Megan and members of her awesome staff (without the wait list) at a discounted price of $100 and receive a phenomenal tattoo. 100% of all proceeds go directly to the ASPCA as well as proceeds from limited edition shirts being sold in store and online. The day extends itself past Grit N Glory and offers animals for adoption from the ASPCA, games, fun, and an awesome experience with cool people and cool animals.

The last event happened in April.  “We had an overwhelming response, more people then we could imagine!” Grit and Glory posted on Facebook. ” Thank you so much everyone that took the time to come out and get tattooed, donate, adopt, and simply support a great cause helping the @aspca finding dogs and cats in need good homes! This was our biggest event yet!”

As pet lovers, there is truly nothing more important than understanding our furry companions. I first met Tori Peterson years ago during her animal rescue efforts. Her sweet nature and passion were so evident that when I found out she became a dog trainer, I was not surprised one bit!

Tori is a professional trainer and blogger at Kindred Companions and in this installment answers some basic “doggie 101 questions.”

Cody Hanson is the drummer for the band Hinder and is one of the biggest lovers of rescue animals that I know!

Cody and his wife Danielle are starting their own foundation to help rescue groups, called “Pawsitively Purffect,” and are having their first New Year’s Eve bash to benefit Second Chance Animal Sanctuary of Oklahoma City.

I have been a fan of Victoria Petrusky Wells for quite some time. Rock Chick, Animal Behavioral Specialist and Musician. I first saw Victoria on the Animal Planet TV show “Animal Cops NYC” back in the day when reality and rescue met. She was the amazing lady who helped rehabilitate the wounded. I was in awe.

Victoria is still rehabilitating dogs and focusing on her rock career with her band “Loose Animals” and is a true hero at the ASPCA in New York City, where her expertise and passion for animals (especially large breed dogs) is taking her to new heights.

Dennis Dunaway is truly a legend. Having been part of the original Alice Cooper Band lineup, Dennis brought his bass playing and influence to not only a slew of the band’s legendary catalog, but also to the brand itself.

In this PGR podcast, the down-to-earth bassist talks history, influences, writing with his friend, Alice, and the rumors of an original band member reunion… AND, of course, his best friends – rescue dogs Colin and Radar – and his involvement with rescue over the years.

In my wildest dreams I never thought while taping this podcast with former Prince and The Revolution and New Power Generation member, keyboardist and collaborator Dr. Fink last week that we would lose our beloved Prince Rogers Nelson just a week later. I am still numb.

When I initially found out Matt Fink was going to be on PGR to talk about his love of dogs and his rescues I was super excited to not only talk dogs but also PRINCE!! My absolute favorite. Fink was on sooooo many great Prince records, was in Purple Rain (with some incredible one liners!) is a staple of the Prince live performances thru the 1990’s and when Prince yelled…”DOCTOR”-  Fink would blaze into a keyboard solo that was a huge part of the Revolution and NPG’s incredible legacy.

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to speak to this wonderful musician about his time with the Iconic Purple Genius (and of course about how his dogs have enriched his life)

The memories are wonderful, stories inspiring and I should have known that it would be dogs that would lead me to meet a member of a band led by my idol!

Prince did a lot of philanthropic work that he insisted fly under the radar. Please listen to his song “Animal Kingdom” if you get a chance. It says it all.
