At the National Cathedral, Bishop Budde ended her inauguration sermon with a message for one person, President Trump. Many people are arguing the merits of what was said, but on this hymn, Coach discusses the approach of both the Bishop and the President's reaction against ideas presented in the Bible and shares ways that we can do better in our lives.

A very personal episode.

No, this isn't an hymn about having a lead foot, but it is an episode about road rage. Coach shares his struggles with getting easily frustrated with other drivers on the road, how anger is not good for his health or Christian faith. Using anecdotes and Bible verses, he shares that anger in itself is not a sin, but how we express it, and what we do with it is.

On a lighter note, he also shares about the Cross Country trip he took for his honeymoon.

On this issue, Coach discusses how memorization has taken a hit in educational circles, as if memorizing and understanding are mutually exclusive and how teachers are told to avoid "drill and kill" and lessons that students can "Google" the answer. Coach pushes back on this idea addressing the need for memorization as building blocks for understanding, offering ideas from one of his favorite books, Why Students Don't Like School, by Daniel Willingham, and then pivoting to the Bible and how it stresses the importance of teaching its truths to our children.

Did you ever watch the Christian equivalent of Twilight Zone? It was a show called Insight, and anthology series that presented questions of life and faith often with a twist &that ran from the 60's until the 80's & often starred some well known stars.

One episode is the fuel for the engine of this one, designer babies. A recent article discusses some of the angst some of these children are having when reaching their teens, yet at the same time, are we also designing our children into our image?

No one likes to hear when they are doing something wrong, yet it can sometimes be the most loving words you need to hear. Coach uses the Seinfeld episode about Festivus to discuss the proper way to enact "The Airing of Grievances" & how our alway affirming never criticizing culture is to no one's benefit. One example he uses is from the world of sports to show that in some venues, we see the value in being critical.

Using a quote from the 2002 movie Signs, he asks what type of person are you; how is your life affected by your view of God.
