Pharmacists can now prescribe medication to patients with HIV and tuberculosis following a recent court Judgment. The Pretoria High Court dismissed an application by a private doctors' organization, the Independent Practitioners Association (IPA) Foundation - which was challenging a legislation in the Government Gazette that enables pharmacists to prescribe and dispense antiretroviral medicines without a doctor's prescription.
