A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars. So why are we talking about Spectre? Well once upon a time we were a James Bond podcast around every 7th episode, and for whatever reason, Spectre shares an incredible amount of similarity to Rise of Skywalker. Call it some kind of group think or a sign of the times.
Next show we discuss the Rising of the Skywalker!
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars. This week, in preparation for our discussion on the JJ Abrams directed Rise of Skywalker, we dive deep into the JJ Abrams directed Star Trek Into Darkness!
Featuring the great J J Abrams quiz where I quiz Drew on various factoids about Abrams produced movies and television shows!
Next episode we will do a bonus show on the (still) most recent James Bond movie, Spectre! Why? Because it strangely does a lot of the same things as Rise of Skywalker. It even opens with text that mirrors the opening text of Rise of Skywalker, which is equally puzzling since James Bond movies do not typically begin with on screen text!
Here it is... yet another podcast about Star Wars!
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars. This week we get into The Last Jedi, certainly the most divisive, the most discussed Star Wars certainly in recent history.
Next show we will setup our discussion of Rise of Skywalker by trying, somehow, to solve the JJ Abrams problem by diving into Star Trek Into Darkness.
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars.
I admit, matching a Star Trek movie and/or episode to The Last Jedi was difficult, certainly far more difficult than any other paring we've done in this series. We settled on Star Trek Picard because of the divisive nature of the Picard series, mixed with the experience of seeing our beloved franchise icon at a later more cynical stage in life.
I wish I had more positive things to say about Picard, but this series was a disappointment. We will get into it during the podcast, but I am at a loss as to how you could make a spin off of The Next Generation and aspire to suck all of the joy out of that series. Star Trek Picard is not a pleasurable viewing. Whereas The Force Awakens probably tries too hard to re-capture the feel of the original Star Wars, this show tries too hard to subvert everything we love about TNG. I hope future writers take care to not use darkness in the place of substance, or think torture porn and revenge plot lines count as superior character studies.
Next podcast will cover The Last Jedi!
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars. Today, we try to make sense of The Force Awakens and... mostly succeed? Well, I'll make like Abrams and let you make your own conclusions as to whether or not we did!
I think it is fair to say that trying to unravel a mystery box is hard, and that it is made harder when there is not in fact anything within said box. We give this movie it's due.
Look forward to our next show where we prepare for our discussion on the controversial Last Jedi by discussing the controversial Star Trek Picard, covering the first two episodes of that series.
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast mini series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars.
This week, we tackle the debate over whether Rey is a Mary Sue, and in order to do so, we thought we'd start with an episode about Star Trek's own Mary Sue*, Wesley Crusher! This podcast episode focuses primarily on The Next Generation's season 1 episode "Where No One Has Gone Before" but we cover a couple of other notable Wesley appearances.
*Fun fact that the term Mary Sue actually originated with Star Trek fan fiction, which we discuss in the episode!
Next episode we will dive deep on The Force Awakens!
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars.
Last week we did Trouble With Tribbles! This week we do Issues With Ewoks. (Sorry, it's the best Google synonym could do for me.) Which cuddly creatures did better at embedding themselves into our subconscious?
And just how is it this movie went from our most favorite, to our most hated, to whatever it is now?
Next week (-ish) we'll be starting our coverage of the Disney trilogy, and to prepare for us to talk about The Force Awakens, we decided to tackle the question of whether or not Rey is a Mary Sue by pulling Star Trek's proto example, Wesley Crusher! And yes I resent the gendered nature of this discussion but it is a part of the discourse so we're taking a careful step into the discussion without trying to be toxic.
So we will be covering The Next Generation's season 1 classic, "Where No One Has Gone Before"!
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars.
This week we setup Return of the Jedi by introducing Star Trek's own cuddly annoyances, the Tribbles.
We talk about things like storage compartments, the nature of cute in the world of space fiction, and figure out just what the heck the Klingins are doing on this station. (Typo is intentional.)
Next week we cover Return of the Jedi in all it's glory! Stay tuned!
A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars. This, this is the big one. Greatest Star Wars movie maybe? Greatest movie perhaps? No movie has quite the highs and lows. We go deep on our VHS memories of this film, as well as few puzzling ancillary memories!
Following this up, we will be comparing and contrasting each series classic prolific furry creatures, covering the season 2 Original Series classic "The Trouble With Tribbles"
A bonus release timed for the US election. Meant to be seen as topical, we went off on a bunch of tangents but I think we hit some relevant points.
Work on our Empire Strikes Back podcast continues and should be complete by next weekend!
